CaS - Automatons

Description
WARNING: THIS MOD IS EARLY IN DEVELOPMENT. ERRORS ARE POSSIBLE AND SOMEWHAT LIKELY. BE SURE TO BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT SAVES BEFORE ENABLING THIS MOD.


ABOUT:

Clockwork and Steam: Automatons is an add-on to C&S. This particular mod adds a new alien race in the form of various clockwork automata.


WHAT'S NEW:

Automatons - C&S: Automatons adds automatons to your RimWorld experience. These currently come in three variations: Doll, Brass, and Brute. Each of these have special backstories that give them skills to somewhat specialize them. Alongside this, automatons can spawn with traits that further specialize them.

Upgrades - C&S: Automatons adds various surgeries for automatons that function as "upgrades", improving their stats.

Factions - C&S: Automatons adds a new faction, The Clockwork Emporium, to the game. They are a friendly faction that provide automata and windups (The Automaton Merchant currently acts as a slave trader, in the future it will only provide automaton pawns).

SAVES AND COMPATIBILITY:

C&S: Automatons is early in development and may cause some problems. This mod can probably be safely added to a game (although the automaton factions will not be available without additional work). However, removing this mod from a save will cause problems. Read the warning at the top: THIS MOD IS IN DEVELOPMENT, EXPECT ERRORS.

As for mod compatibility- I currently run C&S: Automatons in a rather large modpack and have yet to encounter any errors. However, its possible C&S might have some mod conflicts. Feel free to report these and I'll try my best to resolve them.

ART:

A kind thank-you to pls.endmylife for providing the utterly delightful automaton textures (Although she informs me she plans to re-do them somewhat).

DEVELOPMENT:

I haven't tested the mod too much yet, so future updates will likely involve a fair amount of balancing, bug fixes, and compatibility additions.

As a fan of steampunk as a genre, I'm looking forward to seeing some progress on your mod. Good luck! I've been checking back every 4-5 months. Guess I'll be back again in a few more months!

so how is the C&S mod going as by my time i have a feeling most of the base is up to date.

No worries - it was more I was wondering if I had done something wrong or had a mod conflict. I have used a character editor to give the clockworks the sanguine and iron willed traits - that pretty much totally offsets the recreation penalty. Remember modding should bring the modder fun - if others also enjoy it, that is a bonus. I've not learned to mod rimworld, but my meager XCOM mods were made for my benefit first and foremost, and then a handful of others have found them useful too - so it was win win! I expect the game update will put a fire in a few hearts - Ideology looks pretty sweet after all. Have fun!

@Aranador Sadly at the moment this mod has been slightly neglected and has quite a few issues. I plan on cleaning it up more after 1.3 releases though, so I'll see if I can fix this issue then.

Has anyone else had a problem where clockwork androids just will never recreate, but have a massive mood penalty because they are recreation starved? I am playing as a bunch of tribals, and I have some refugees in my camp, two of which are clockworks, who are mostly being crayzee from lack of recreation. Their schedules allow for it, and there are things to do - do clockworks need special recreation types or something?

Having an issue where my dolls will catch the plague and die, or die from radiation anyone else having a similar problem?

so it seems automatons arent compatible with Combat extended? They dont show any ammo with weapons and therefore wont reload.

hi lech im the same, but not for want of trying lol
i got quite far in my 500+ modded game of rimworld v1.0 (but havent been able to complete that since 1.1 came out in jan 2020) :) (almost there though..)
