The Reason
Greetings!

Probably you are here searching for help. Your game crashes - right?
Doesn't matter where - launching the game, entering story mode, etc.

Let's start with the reason why this happens.

1. WHY THIS HAPPENS
It happens because, you, probably have a powerful PC, which runs Cars: The Video Game with no problem. And your PC doesn't want to load your main GPU with such a small task, and the game uses your integrated (backup) one. Like Intel UHD Graphics. The game conflicts with integrated GPUs.
So - the game crashes because it uses your integrated video card. And maybe partly because you have Windows 10/11.

Also another reason might be your antivirus blocking the game's exe file.
But do you really think that a kids game from Steam, can contain something malicious? Yeah, I don't think so too. If your antivirus thinks that a Disney game is a virus - delete the antivirus and install another one, because it just proves how bad it is.
The Solution
2. SOLUTION
Solution is to switch on what GPU your game runs on. You need to change your GPU from integrated to the discrete (main) one.

Method 1. NVIDIA Control Pannel - NVIDIA GPUs
You probably have an NVIDIA icon on your system's task bar. On the left from your time and date settings
If it is not there, then:
1. Click on the arrow that looks up. It should be there.
If it is not, then:
2. Right-click on the free space of the task bar, the menu will pop-up.
3. Click Task Bar Settings (or something like that),
4. Scroll this settings menu until you see these words: "Choose the icons that show up on your task bar".
5. Find NVIDIA Container or NVIDIA Control Panel and make it visible. Then it should pop up on your task bar.
6. Right click on this icon and choose "NVIDIA Control Panel" -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings.
7. In the 1. Select a program to customize - select Cars.exe.
8. In the 2. Select the preferred graphics processor for the program - choose High-perfomance NVIDIA processsor.
9. Click "Apply" on the bottom menu.

Done! You switched the GPU that the game uses from integrated to discrete one.

2. AMD - AMD GPUs,
It should be pretty much the same. I don't have an AMD GPU, so I don't really know how it works. Search "How to switch GPU AMD" on the Internet.

3. Compatibility settings.
1. Go to: *the directory where your Steam is installed* -> Steam -> steamapps -> common -> Cars.
2. Right-Click on Cars.exe. Select "Properties".
3. Select "Compatibility"
4. Put a check in a check-box: Run this program in compatibilty mode for: Windows XP Service Pack 2 (for example).
5. If that didn't work - proceed to try it with the older systems.

4. You might also wanna try to update OpenGL drivers, since the game's engine is... well... Open GL, or Intel Graphics Drivers
Intel: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000037954/graphics.html or just google Intel OpenGL drivers, it should pop up. Install the driver based on what GPU you have.
NVIDIA: https://developer.nvidia.com/opengl-driver

5. If some of the articles didn't work - then do all of them together. It should help.

Now - the game should work good without any crashes. But FPS is locked to 30, and either you deal with it, or either you download a fix. I cannot help you with that. I am sorry.
In addition, I don't recommend you to change the game files manually, as it could lead to some additional unwanted crashes. Stay with the original version of the game. If you want to change the game's language - go to your Steam Library -> Cars -> Properties -> *last menu* -> Language. That'll work.

If i helped you - let me know down in the comments. Thanks for reading guys! Good luck!
F.A.Q
Common problems:
1. NVIDIA Control Panel crashes. What do I do?
Sometimes when trying to open Program Settings menu in NVIDIA Control Panel, it will crash.
Problem: NVIDIA has a program in it's list which is not installed anymore on your PC, thus NVIDIA Control Panel is confused, leading it to crash.
Solution: Go to Hard Drive C -> ProgramData (hidden folder) -> NVIDIA Corpotation -> Drs.
There will be 2 files which you need to move somewhere else or delete. Those are nvdrsb0 and nvdrsb1.
Your task is to move them from this folder. Then reboot your PC, try to launch NVIDIA Control Panel once again. It should create a new list of programs, fixing the crash.

2. Is there a way to make my game run in Windowed Mode?
Not without some third-party software. There is a program called DXwnd, you can try it out, but you take the risk and I am not responsible for anything you are doing with it.

If people still have problems, use DxWnd to launch the game. This forces the game to be in a windowed mode which fixes the crash on launch.

Thomasfan122009 - well, it looks like you missed some of the solution's steps. Try to repeat them again, especially the compatibility section

Luster. Franklin(ARG) - you might wanna try to update your OpenGL drivers. Added the links to the guide.
