NOTE: This design has been replaced by a newer and much more capable version:

Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions, a division of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, presents an offworld version of the Deep Reach planetary miner, a vanilla small-grid design without mods or DLC, and contains no rotors or pistons making it a perfect survival-ready solution for large mining projects.

Planetary Version: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1872606578

Designed as a high-capacity vertical miner that operates on the Moon's surface (or, optionally, in space), the Deep Reach offworld miner extracts ores effortlessly with its 36 drills that are optimally spaced and 10 large cargo containers. Fully loaded with ore and/or ice, the payload capacity of this miner is over 760 tons using 1-1-1 realistic settings. The tested lift capacity of this ship exceeds the carrying capacity of all available storage, i.e., 10 cargo containers, 36 drills, connector, and cockpit, and requires 4 large reactors for power. As with the planetary version, this ship will easily pass through an 8-block wide by 4-block high large-grid hangar opening.

NOTE: Ingame scripts (in advanced settings) must be enabled for the autolevel script to function while in a moon's gravity well!

NO MODS, NO DLC, NO ROTORS/PISTONS; SURVIVAL READY AND PROJECTOR BUILDABLE!

STATISTICS
Tested Gross Mass: 914 tons (using cobalt ore on a moon; there is no limitation in zero-g space)
Empty Mass: 154 tons
PCUs: 14,140
BLocks: 1,024

CONTROLS
{1} Drills
{2} Spotlights ON/OFF
{3} Camera Down
{4} Run AutoLevel
{5} Stop AutoLevel
{6} Marker Lights ON/OFF
{7} Gatling Turrets ON/OFF
{8} Connector, Docking, Switch Lock
{9} Large Ion Thrusters ON/OFF

Note: Remember to clear away stone and/or ice by selecting the drills {1} and right-clicking your mouse as you descend into the Moon's surface; select {2} for the spotlights and {3} for the downward camera view. Once you hit an ore deposit, left-clicking your mouse will collect ore.

You bet. I'm just sorry I didn't update the turkey earlier. It was essentially complete.

Awesome thanks for the update and for helping me fix the stone. Awesome build loving it

This is a much better version that dumps waste stone much more efficiently that correspondingly speeds up the mining process.

(I had meant to update this miner to a new, much more efficient version. I'll add it to my to-do list.)

Currently, the conveyor sorter for ore is set to blacklist stone and the conveyor sorter for stone is set to whitelist stone. I've noticed that SE sometimes gets weird with its sorter logic. Since the conveyor sorter for ore seems to be working correctly, then obviously the conveyor sorter for stone has the "dumbs." Change the sorting logic for the conveyor sorter for stone to instead blacklist ore (and ice, if you want to keep ice). And if that doesn't seem to do it, sometimes exiting completely out of SE and restarting will often fix buggy behavior.

Good Day, I love the design but I am having an issue. The drills are holding onto their stone but they are transferring there ore. How do I get the Stone to dump besides manually moving it to the stone dump connector.

ok thanks so this one is probably a good chance then if im searching moons an space an astroids. If i was doing just astroids that would be different tho as the other one would be better. Thanks for the reply

An excellent question. The space version is purely ion thrusters, so it'll be of limited use on a moon and really only meant for space mining. Admittedly, I haven't tried it on a moon though. I'm very sure, however, that its payload capacity will be severely limited on a moon; This hydro version has be optimized with lots of small and large hydrogen "lift" thrusters for the very purpose of counteracting the 0.25g gravity well on any of the moons when all the cargo containers and drills are full of ore. Those same thrusters, however, are not capable enough to work on a planet which is why it's limited to a moon (or space). So, the short answer is that you can use either in space, although the space version has a lot more carry capability, but only the hydro version on a moon.

Whats the different between this one an your space variant one?

Yeah, no...not enough hydrogen capacity. OK, my preliminary design, based on loading all available cargo space with cobalt ore, shows that I would need far too many large hydrogen thrusters to carry the full load on a planet, but that I can get by (barely) using six large hydrogen thrusters for lift when used on a moon (or in space; the large "up" thrusters don't really matter, so I've added a bunch of small ones, too). So it will not be an all-purpose variant of the existing designs, but rather an alternative to the offworld miner that doesn't use uranium, but does rely on a large quantity of ice to power this sucker. Does this variant really gain anything when uranium is readily available in space? Regardless, I'll finalize the design, run a bunch of survival tests with it, fix whatever needs fixing, then publish it.
