3-Step Beginner Aim Guide
By FARTKNOCKA
I've been trying to guide new players around the finer aspects of Hunt and the one thing I believe could help the new players is to learn these 3 steps. These aren't meant to get you to god tier in skills. But rather, give you a mindset to stay alive a bit longer in fights and perhaps win a few more in your early days.

How to improve your aim in combat
Remember, these are just like my opinion, man. Any help you provide towards our new hunters is greatly appreciated.

I recommend trying this with every gun, by adjusting the distance at which you engage your target based on your bullet size. The following ranges are beginner ranges. Please add your guidance if you have experience on best distances to practice the crossbows, bomb lance, throwing combat axe, throwing knives, etc.

Large - 50-70m

Medium - 40-60m

Compact - 30-50m

Shotgun - 10-20m

The 3-step process happens quickly. From my experience, all of this happens in the blink of an eye during combat, which makes it hard to notice if you watch game play.

  1. Get behind cover as if you are in a gun fight with the zombie at the recommended range for your ammo type. Tip: Never squat in a gun fight...ever. Your head hitbox is more forward, you move slower, and where you're aiming is not what the enemy is seeing. They can see your shoulder before you can see them and just wall-bang your face.

  2. Aim down sights and, as fast as you can, strafe out of and back into cover. During this peak, get your cross hairs as close the head of the zombie as you can. Tip: In time, you will be able to get your cross hairs within a heads distance of center. Do not turn your mouse to adjust your body position, use only movement keys for position and the mouse strictly for aiming so it stays relatively stationary.

  3. While in cover, envision where the zombies head is, finalize any adjustment to place your cross hairs on the zombies head, and quickly strafe out of cover, make any last chance micro adjustment and fire and then quickly strafe back into cover. Tip: Fire even if you're not close. Practice the timing of flicking the shots as well as landing them.

Once you get smooth at this method, you will be able to combine steps 1&2. The benefits to this methods are as follows:

  1. You're learning to aim from behind cover, which will help in real gun fights.

  2. You negate any of the sway theory BS going around if you learn to strafe peak a shot. No need to ADAD spam, it only takes one bullet. You probably know by now that if you shoot twice from the same spot, you deserve what you get.

There are some serious technical skills in aiming in this game that you can acquire once you've mastered the basics. Please let me know if this helps you. I am considering making this into a YouTube video once I refine it to make the most sense.

@snavis.

Each engagement will be different from the last or the next. But saying this guide is pointless is like saying soldiers should not spend time on the shooting range because it is pointless. It's like saying chefs shouldn't go to culinary school because every dish or restaurant is different.

Mastering the basics and being able to rely on them regardless of the variables is an invaluable asset to anyone who wants to become proficient at something.

Every gunfight is completely situational making this "guide" pointless.

Crossbow was my main for a few prestiges. The hand crossbow is basically a shotgun that can one tap the chest quietly. The full size is maybe 20m to 30m tops. The explosive is a meme unless you have two friends running it too. The shotbolt is good and one shots at literally any distance if you can hit it

@Redshirt I completely agree! I highly recommend using a silent pistol to kill every grunt and hive you see with a headshot. it has helped me train my aim significantly.

@douchebag haha, this guide was created before several iterations of shotgun changes. I tend to agree with you on the new ranges for general success with shotguns.
