It would be really easy for the creator to optimize them for this game. Just reduce texture sizes - textures over 2048x2048 aren't supported by the game officially (although technically possible, definitely not recommended. 2048 for only exceptional buildings).

The triangle count of default building models ranges from less than 1000 triangles for the smallest and simplest buildings to about 5000 for large and complex buildings. I haven't checked the triangle count on these but this may be helpful information to pass back to the creator :)
