CONELRAD or Control of Electromagnetic Radiation Was a way of emergency broadcasting to the ppl of the USA if there was a enemy attack during the Cold War. It was intended to serve two purposes; to prevent Soviet bombers from homing in on American cities by using radio or TV stations as beacons, and to provide essential civil defense information to civilians before and after a time of cricis. established in 1951.

The US Government built individual CONELRAD ONLY stations for the purpose of confusing enemy bomber that where using the american broadcasts to home onto cities. these stations where built and run by the US military. they run on a MUCH higher frequancy then most other radio stations. a CONELRAD station ran on 1240 kHz frequancies, wile regular TV and public radio was ordered to run on 640. the need to send a stronger signal was also addressed by attaching a dish to the radio tower, this boosts the broadcast frequancy. thus confusing the enemy bombers.
