Death is what occurs to you when you reach 0 hp, either because you are bad at the game, or you're trying to annoy your friends. A message in chat usually displays describing the method of death that happened to you.

When a player dies, a tombstone spawns, which are a pain in the rear end to clean up if you have a lot of them.

These are all the possible messages that can display when you die.

<PlayerName> was slain.
<PlayerName> was eviscerated.
<PlayerName> was murdered.
<PlayerName>'s face was torn off.
<PlayerName>'s entrails were ripped out.
<PlayerName> was destroyed.
<PlayerName>'s skull was crushed.
<PlayerName> got massacred.
<PlayerName> got impaled.
<PlayerName> was torn in half.
<PlayerName> was decapitated.
<PlayerName> let their arms get torn off.
<PlayerName> watched their innards become outards.
<PlayerName> was brutally dissected.
<PlayerName>'s extremities were detached.
<PlayerName>'s body was mangled.
<PlayerName>'s vital organs were ruptured.
<PlayerName> was turned into a pile of flesh.
<PlayerName> was removed from <World name>.
<PlayerName> got snapped in half.
<PlayerName> was cut down the middle.
<PlayerName> was chopped up.
<PlayerName>'s plead for death was answered.

<PlayerName> is sleeping with the fish.
<PlayerName> drowned.
<PlayerName> is shark food.


<PlayerName> got melted.
<PlayerName> was incinerated.
<PlayerName> tried to swim in lava.
<PlayerName> likes to play in magma.


(When killed by a debuff that inflicts fire): <PlayerName> couldn't put the fire out.
(When killed by Poisoned, or Venom): <PlayerName> couldn't find the antidote.
(When killed by Suffocation): <PlayerName> couldn't breathe.
(When killed by Electrified): <PlayerName> couldn't handle the volts | <PlayerName> couldn't contain the watts.
(When killed by fall damage while Stoned): <PlayerName> shattered into pieces | <PlayerName> cant be put back together again. | <PlayerName> needs to be swept up. | <PlayerName> just became another dirt pile.
(Dying while using the Rod of Discord with Chaos State Debuff) <PlayerName>'s legs appeared where his/her head should be. | <PlayerName> didn't materialize.


<PlayerName> fell to their death.
<PlayerName> didn't bounce.

Here is the most interesting part of the guide. These are most of the ways to die in the game.

Getting murdered by a mob, boss, or player.
Getting crushed to death by a boulder.
Getting killed by any trap.
Drowning to death in water.
Drowning to death in lava.
Burning to death in lava.
Dying to any debuff.
Falling to death.
Getting licked to death by WoF.


Those are the main ways to die. Suggestions in comments.

Death can be a really good mechanic in the game, as it can be the end of a run, or the start of a run. Death should be more acknowledged by players around the globe which play Terraria.
