Crossbow aiming
By postscripter8
More of a personal note than a guide...

Covers:
How to effectively aim with Crosspoint crossbow.
I will mostly focus on using a Hawken scope.

Assumption:
windage and zeroing perks aren't used as they spoil the whole fun for me.

Glossary
  • POA - unadjusted point of aim - the center of the top dot on scope reticle, center of the scope image
  • POI - point of impact - where the bolt will hit as seen through the scope relative to the POA
  • POA adjustment - length on the scope image measured from the 1st dot to the intended POI - center of the target;
  • dot - a red dot mark on the scope reticle,
  • 1st dot - the uppermost dot in the middle on the scope
  • 2nd dot - the middle dot
  • 3rd dot - the bottom dot
  • bar - a length between two dot marks on the scope reticle; since Hawken scope has SFP reticle the resulting elevation will change with magnification settings; for now I will only use 1x (minimum) and 5x (maximum) settings;
  • 0th dot - the place on the reticle one bar above the 1st dot
  • 4th dot - the place on the reticle one bar below the 3rd dot; this happens to be at the spot where the thin vertical line meets the thick vertical line
  • point - a length equal to diameter of the dot mark on the scope reticle

this one is tricky, about 1 bar above the bottom edge of the scope glass; I recomend using 1x magnification for this distance

English is my 2nd language. I didn't really spend much time refining the terminology. That's why there is a glossary with precise explanation what I mean by what words. Sorry if it's incomprehensible or unintuitive. If you've got a suggestion for better terms, feel free to share. I will adjust the guide if I like it :-D

Thank you, that's so nice. It was only meant to be useful, not win awards. I'm sufficiently satisfied with you liking it :-D

Kinda sad that there isn't a 'Community Hero' award. You totally would deserve it

Thank you. Last time I checked it worked out quite OK. One nitpick to keep in mind is side wind which matters especially for longer shots (50m+).

I figured this out on parque fernando bow shooting range, so point of impact was marked with pinpoint accuracy on range target. Point of aim though, it's just my impression. It would be nice to verify the accuracy after latest patches, but I won't be able to do it this year.
