Steam Recognized my wireless controller
Note that this guide is only for those seeing their controller shown in Steam but not functional in the game itself

Edited 2019/11/22 - I have written the guide from the PC experience, some report not working for Mac, I will update the guide again if I get to validate it on my Mac

In the steam, settings -> controllers -> regular settings, you should seen something assemblingto the below:
Now go to force enable it
since the game seems not supporting the wireless/nobranded controller Steam has already recognized

( and you can further verify your controller is working as expected outside Steam by checking the HTML5GamePad site[html5gamepad.com] )

I have tried multiple suggestions from various thread but no luck

In the end, I just tried the below, and magically it fix the issue for me!

1) Go to your steam Library, and right click on the game "Overcooked 2", then click "Properties"

2) Of the input setting/configuration, change from Default/Global Steam Input to "Forced Enable" ( excuse my translation as my UI is not in English )

And testing it !
When I launch the game again with the above changes, the Mi Bluetooth Controller I have is functioning as expected, work well alongside my XBOX360 wired controller and a Keyboard

Now 3P Local 3 Co-oP is possible!
Addendum - Controller Config on Mac
Upon receiving feedback of this guide does not work on a Mac, I have done further testing. Given my limited expertise in Mac and the limited controller and games I have, here is few personal opinions on the behaviours being observed.

  • the forced-on option is not working (at least) on Overcooked2 for neither my non-branded BlueTooth controller nor my PS4 DS controller.

  • another game i tested, which being DIRT Rally on Mac, supports both controllers (no-branded and PS4 DS) without any issue

  • this makes me believe the setting on steam is somehow not passed to the game for controller detection. ( while the controller works fine in big-picture mode itself and other games, most likely is the compatibility of the game Overcooked 2 itself )

As a work-around ( and undesired one ), I have created a hard-keyboard-binding config and also uploaded to Overcooked2 Community, called "Gamepad - Overcooked2 - Keyboard Binding" ( or steam://controllerconfig/728880/1959319433 , although I have never used such links before )

The idea is to simulate the Player1 Keys ( non-split) to the controller keys (non-joy-sticks), where Left Control, Alt, Shift and direction keys are mapped accordingly

If you have imported and apply the configuration successfully, you can see the steam pop-up when launching the game like below ( which means Steam does pass on controller settings to the game )

This is far from desired and I do find Ctrl+Alt+Left / Right do overlaps with other shortcut I have on Mac ( Magnet or similar to organize windows )

@Cheburashka , xbox 360 ( wired ) and xbox one controller should work without custom setting above.
I have the xbox360 validated but xbox one in theory should work without any trouble

@Leonard I am afraid I cannot answer your question as I cannot even get my non-branded controller nor my PS4 DS4 working for Overcooked2.

If you are really keen, you can try to create a config, mapping the split-keyboard to the controller so it might work for two players one with keyboard and one with controller for overcooked2.

Would love to know if you somehow get the controller work natively on this game, please share the model of the controller you own and any steps you have performed in addition

@valinored , I have tested on my MAC today, unfortunately the game 'overcooked' seems to be the problem rather than steam config in this case. ( but partially both ). I will be updating my guide to include the more findings.
