Introduction
Hello there! and welcome to my guide of when and when not to press the medic button! Sounds sorta stupid huh? Well to be honest, many people don't know when to properly ask for help.

After playing medic for 300+ hours, I've notcied people tend to do this Quite a Bit.

In this guide I plan to have a few different sections covering a varrious ammount of situations that could help minimize the ammount of roaring screams of you and your team yelling out one simple word: MEDIC!

Note: This guide is asuming your medic knows how to play medic!

Part 1: Common Sense Guidelines
Still spamming the medic button are we? Here are a few tips to help you when and when NOT to press the medic button!

I've come up with a list of a few rules to try and follow

1. Don't just press the medic button for fun though yes it is amusing, it messes with your teams' medic(s) They could come try to find you and heal you, leaving the main area of battle to assit someone who isnt in need of aid.

2. If you're standing right next to a medic while he is healing somebody else, Don't just sit there and hollar! This messes with the player themself, it rushes them to heal multiple people at the same time and they could loose their focus and concentration. The medic will get to you if you actually need medical aid momentarily.

3. In the heat of battle deaths happen constantly, and one medic simply cannot keep 8 people alive at once! If there are any health kits arround and even a engineer's dispenser, try and use these before resorting to a medic busy in the fight.

4. Don't always rely on the medic to heal you, He could be busy poping an ubercharge or healing a near death ally, or trying to even find health for himself.

5. Medic is a very frail class and cannot fight his way though enimies to reach you, make sure if you want to be healed by a medic to stick near them and help them stay alive!
Part 2: Priorities
During a game, the medic constantly has to make sure that he heals everybody on the team and try his or her best to keep everybody else alive, this process is done by the player and it is called:

Priority healing

What does this have to do with spamming the medic button?
The way I see it has to do with this topic is because not everybody understands the importance of when and who to heal.

Here's a basic healing Priority Chart to help you undestand why you're not being healed at that very moment and somebody esle is getting ze heals.

Note: The Chart goes from top to bottom, top being the most crucial to heal.

Other Medics~~V
Heavy~~~~~~~~V
Soldier~~~~~~~V
Demoman~~~~~V
Pyro~~~~~~~~~V
Engineer~~~~~V
Sniper~~~~~~~V
Spy~~~~~~~~~V
Scout~~~~~~~~V

My reasoning behind putting the slower classes first is because classes such as the scout can go and grab healthkits arround the map versus a heavy who can't outrun the firefight and needs imediate attention. Also, other medics are needed to keep everybody alive, so another medic could be healing another medic to keep the healing upto par.

However despite that chart, medics should heal players that are in need of medic attention as quick as possible when they are suffering from:
  • Burning Damage
  • Bleeding Damage
  • Severely Low Health (10% or less)
If you are suffering from one of these effects in the game and run the risk of dying from them. Then is the appropriate time to hit the medic button once or twice to aleart the medic that you need quick health!
Part 3: A Few Situations You Could Find Yourself In
Here are 3 Examples of situations that you could very well find yourself in while on the battlefeild, and what to do at these moments.

Situation One:
You find yourself just spawning in with the rest of your team at the beginning of a game on Blu team. You are a Scout, you clearly want to just rush the point and try and distract the sentry with your super fast speeds! The Medic overheals you to 150% Health before the beginning of the match, and stops overhealing you when the match starts and focuses his healing on the heavy.

You could do one of three things
  • Spam the medic button untill the medic heals you again.
  • Run out and start fighting with your given health increase.
  • Blow up from the Demoman's Stickybombs at the entrace. (Nice job, Dummkopf.)

Situation Two:
You Spawn as medic on red team mid-way through the game, you see everybody spamming the medic button including the other medic on your team, as you run out to heal everybody in sight, you notice that most of them are at full health accept the heavy trying to fend off a group of people. You notice when he screamed medic his speech bubble showed up a very dark red.

Here are your options:
  • Run as fast as you can to heal the heavy and hold down the point.
  • Heal the nearest teamate and follow him arround, oh cool this scout has a shortstop!
  • Heal the other medic who has 135/150 health, brothers forever!

Situation Three:
You spawn as heavy in a game of capture points, your team is nearly destroyed! Their at the final point waiting for assistance and trying vigirously to push forward. You notice the medic is very busy with the rest of the team as you lay down fire to keep out pesky oppenents like scouts and spies. Oh no! You are shot by a sniper and took 250 damage! You have 50 health left and the medic is already healing a soldier who is on fire and the engineer who just got a cleaver to the face.

What do you do?:
  • Rush back inside to spawn and grab health and ammo
  • Go over to the busy medic and sound like a dying fat pig
  • Hurry over toward cover and eat your sadvich
Fin.
Thank you very much for reading my guide! I hope you learned something from this!

Cheers and Happy Gaming! -☣Lady Rainicorn☣
