Unification Patch

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2134

You must extract this to your base WItcher 3 directory (e.g. mine is E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3). This is for script compatibility reasons between slightly different game versions on Steam/GOG.

Installation instructions

For all the mods in the below section 'Mod List - Files', the installation procedure is as follows:

  • Extract the file you download from the Nexus into your Witcher 3 mods folder. If you don't have this folder, you need to create it. Mine is E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3\mods.
  • Go into the folder you just extracted. If there is a folder in there called 'bin', you need to copy that entire folder to your base Witcher 3 directory (e.g. E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3), saying yes to any dialog boxes. Make sure you copy the folder itself and not its contents!

Don't use the Nexus Mod Manager for this, download and install all files manually.
Mod list - Files
Always Full Exp (1.31)

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/820

I always thought it was silly that leaving a quest until later would somehow give you less xp for that quest. This fixes that and gives you the full xp for any quest. Getting the 'always difficulty exp' file takes the difficulty setting into account.

Auto Apply Oils

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/625

Applies the appropriate oil for the group of enemies you're facing when you enter combat. Reap the benefits of crafting all those oils without the tedium of having to reapply them every single fight you get into.

AutoLoot

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1996

A highly configurable system for automatically looting containers. Why should you have to suffer through the loot menu opening ten times after fighting a pack of drowners or wolves?

Custom Localisation Fix

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/897

Fixes some broken text in the game.

Fast Travel Points Pack

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1978

Adds some additional fast travel points to e.g. the master blacksmiths in Novigrad and Velen, amongst others. Save yourselves the walk!
You won't see these signs straight away, you'll need to find and interact with them before they're added to the map.

The Gwent Card Dealer

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1054

With this mod, the quartermaster in Crow's Perch now sells Gwent cards. Very helpful if you want to be able to play the game before you've had the luck to find any rare cards. I suggest getting the 'NOT ALL CARDS' version so you will still have to play for hero cards.

Galloping in cities

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/385

Novigrad's a big place and running from point to point sucks. This will let you gallop there instead.

Increased Creature Loot

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/38

I use the 'Purist' version of the mod, which just makes it so enemies always drop something.

Jump in Shallow Water

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/659

Wading through water is pain. Make it better with this!

All Quest Objectives On Map

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/943

One of the most useful mods I use, this places every quest marker on the main map at the same time. You can see which quests are below/at/above your level, and select your active quest, all from the map instead of the quests page. No need to constantly go back and forth between the two any longer!

No Fall Damage

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/352

No need for tedious backtracking and careful parkour to get down from high places any longer. Simply throw yourself off and land with a roll.

Disable Storybook Videos

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/816

DIsables the story recap video that plays when you launch the game. It's great once, twice, even 5 times, when you hear it for the 50th time it gets real annoying.

Over 9000 - Weight limit mod

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/3

You don't have to worry about trekking back and forth to towns to offload your loot with this any longer. Simply enjoy the adventure, and you can do inventory management whenever you please.

TradeMan

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/6

Having to trek around to 5 different merchants to offload your loot because they're all so poor is boring. With this you can change merchants how you like.

Indestructible Items - No More Weapon Degradation

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/342

Now you can stay out fighting however long you like! Your swords and armor will never break on you.

Action Log

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/934

Increases the speed and number of lines displayed of the action log. A minor but lasting improvement.

Misc screen effect mods

No Dirty Lens Effect - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/408
Remove Screen Water Droplets Effect - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/347
No Glare Effect (Blood and Wine) - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2050

Removes screen effects which, in my opinion, take away from realism.
Mod list - Other
The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1021

If your PC can handle it, why not make the game look a little better? Download and run.

Instant Sign Casting

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/81

I prefer the 'tweaked' version of the file. Download and replace the input.settings file in your Documents folder (e.g. mine is E:\user\Documents\The Witcher 3\input.settings).

An absolute essential for any sign build, this allows you to switch to, and cast, signs with a single button press 1-5. Works with alternate sign modes as well. No more constantly pausing to bring up the radial menu, or frantically pressing the 'next sign' button.

Extinguish fix

Not a mod, but fixes a massive annoyance. Having the same button as picking things up for extinguishing/lighting flames is by far the most annoying thing in the game. To fix, this, go to your input.settings file in your Documents folder (e.g. mine is E:\user\Documents\The Witcher 3\input.settings). If you're installing 'Instant SIgn Casting', above, make sure you do this step afterwards.

Find and replace 'IK_E=(Action=Ignite)' with 'IK_C=(Action=Ignite)'.
Also find and replace 'IK_E=(Action=Extinguish)' with 'IK_C=(Action=Extinguish)'.

Don't include the quotes when you do this! This will rebind extinguishing/lighting to C, which by default is sheathing your sword. I find it works very well.
Final Steps
Script Merger

https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/484

Download and run this, and accept all the merges. If you download the mods in my list, you should have no unresolvable conflicts.

All done!

Enjoy your improved game!

@Tobias even when you use vortex (new NMM version). You don't have to open the game from NMM, you just install mods with it. For launch the game you still using steam

@Tobias Don't use Nexus Mod Manager for this. You should have downloaded and installed the files manually, so you don't need the manager. Just launch the game normally through Steam and you should have the overlay that way.

heidi  [author] 15 Jul, 2019 @ 9:42pm
@Tobias That's a 7z file, you need to download 7zip to extract it. You can download it here [www.7-zip.org].

Nice compilation. I'll add the mods to get colored markers on the map and more stash locations to access your storage, FWIW.

But I find some of those really too much game changing... A lot of people find the game a little too easy when you reach a certain point (I'll say around level 10).. and Increased Loot, Always Full Exp and auto apply oil seems really like tools just to make the game easier (and to some extend, every mod making it easier to collect and sell a lot of loot : no weight limit, easy selling to all merchants, autoloot...).

For those that are going to discover the game, I recommend starting the game without those changes. Just test, play and then if you find one of those too much frustrating then go on, but not before : you'll probably miss some things that are part of the taste of this amazing game.
Learn how to sell to the right merchant (some have way enough money..!), find out yourself that unlimited weight just breaks game consistency (and is useless..!).
