A beginner's guide : How to get to 300 Km/h
By Setsuki
This guide provides advices about how to get as fast as possible in the game, and how not to lose your speed. A lot of those informations aren't told during the tutorial. This guide wants to be a complement to the tutorial.

Hi ! How are you ?
Hello and welcome to my guide.
In this guide, I'll try to teach you every game mechanic I discovered and that aren't taught during the tutorial.
I have no connection to the developers of this game that I think is abandoned. (mostly because the server system is bad. You can only join during lobby, which lasts 300 seconds max.)
I had two friends that bought the game during a sale and I taught them how to play. So I made a guide out of it !
Where to train ?
There is a special level in the game, FreeStyle, that doesn't have any goal. You can go to this level to train. I'll put exercises taking place in this level.

When you are getting bored of FreeStyle, the level Celerity has some very long platforms, that you can use to easily gain momentum.

I'm playing in gamer difficulty.
Where to walk ?
This is a simple question, but the answer isn't as simple.
Don't worry, it isn't complicated either.

You see, on the ground, the little squares? Let's use them as a measure.

If there is a gap of one square between two platforms, you can walk on it.
If there is a gap of two squares, you can't.
How to gain momentum.
This is the most important part : when do you gain momentum, and when don't you ?

RUNNING FORWARD AND DIAGONALLY
If you start running forward or diagonally, you'll notice that your speed quickly gets around 60 km/h, and then slowly goes up.
If you jump, your speed gets a small boost, that you lose right when you touch the ground again, or when you do a walljump.

Basically, you can gain speed when you are running forward or diagonally on the ground. You don't get any faster while in the air. But being in the air isn't so bad, because you don't lose speed either.

There is a second way, that is a lot harder, but also a lot more rewarding : slopes.

USING SLOPES
If you are in FreeRun, you should be able to find a long steep slope. Try to get above it.

Do you remember the "increase gravity" button ? (default : Alt). If you increase your gravity while going down a slope, you get A LOT faster. But as soon as you touch the ground down that slope, the gravity makes you lose your speed.
What you have to do is :
  • Get on the slope.
  • Keep the Increase Gravity button pushed.
  • Left click (WallJump) and release the gravity button at the same time. (Right clicking won't work because you are already falling).
If you do this correctly, you should have a speed from 150 to 250 km/h !

BOOSTJUMPING
Thanks to The Paprika Killer for this one I didn't know about !
When jumping, shoot at the surface you're jumping from, it will give you a nice speed boost !

MULTIPLAYER ONLY : GETTING SHOT
This one is pretty straight forward. If you get shot, you get insanely fast. If you recover well, you can keep this speed.
How to lose momentum.
So great, now you know how to gain momentum, but you don't seem to be able to keep it for a long time, why is that ?
There are a few elements that make you slower :

RUNNING INTO WALLS
Of course, this one is obvious. The hardest part about this one is learning to walljump without getting too close to the wall. Your character has a high range, try to see how far from a wall you can be until you can't bounce off it anymore.

TURNING
This one is weird at first, but I ended up liking it.
If you move your mouse too fast, let's say, to take a turn, you'll lose all your speed. All of it, back to 60km/h, wham. Harsh.
You have to move the mouse as slowly as possible, or even better, NEVER TURN IT.
We'll see next section how to take a turn, don't worry.

FALLING
If you fall too fast, your speed will VERY quickly decrease. In a difficulty that allow double walljumping, I advise you, if you intend to fall, to keep your second jump, and use it by increasing gravity at the same time as soon as you're falling too fast. It'll slow your fall down, thus allowing you to keep the same speed.
How to turn.
So you can only run forward and diagonally, and you can't turn. If the levels were straight forward, that wouldn't be a problem, but they aren't ! How do you turn ?

Well, the answer is easy :
BY JUMPING
If you're in the air, no matter if you do a 180°, you'll keep your speed as high as it was before turning. So you have to jump to be able to take a bend.
Exercise 1 : Let's get to 300 Km/h
So, you are in the level EPI-FreeStyle. Right at the beginning, go to the right. You'll see a long platform. hop on it, we'll use it to get our speed going.

What I want you to do is go from a side to the other. When you get to the other side, jump and turn around. As I said before, you have to jump so you won't lose your speed.
In this video, I use slomo on each jump.
Exercise 2 : Down that slope !
Do you remember the slope ? Well, I want you to try it now. There isn't really a lot to explain.
  • Jump on the slope.
  • Keep Increase Gravity pressed.
  • Walljump and release Increase Gravity at the same time.
Conclusion
Well, there you go. Now you know everything you need to know to play InMomentum. As I said earlier, I recommend Celerity as a beginner's level because of its numerous long platforms.

Don't be afraid to increase the gravity often, to get on the ground sooner and so increase your speed longer.
Don't give up, this game is hard, and finally, when you feel ready, don't be afraid to take shortcuts ! (PathOfFire is a long, straight shortcut).

I hope you have as much fun playing this wonderful game as I do, and I hope to see your name soon on the leaderboard !

Okay, "shoot+jump=fly" says internet. Well, I didn't know about that. I'll train with it and add it to the guide. Thank you !

I may have forgotten about that, or don't even know what it is. Could you tell me more so I can learn/remember/add it ?
PS : I remember you from some of your IM videos.

So any particular reason you aren't covering boost jumping? They are kind of required to get a decent time in any level.
