As an update in case anyone stumbles across this now decade-old video: Yes, most of the information is still accurate. There are more races now based on what expacs you buy, but the core races are still the same as far as I can tell. One thing to note, though, is that individual race traits are a bit less impactful as you level up. Eventually, you'll get to a point where your racial benefits won't matter too much given the stats your gear and such has.

Overall, I'd say that you should choose what you think seems cool. Fun's the most important part. Man is definitely my favorite intro questline by a country mile, and I've played through it a dozen times. I didn't really like the Hobbit questline, and I only did the Dwarf one once. The Elf questline is my second-favorite, but it feels a bit slower and the starting area isn't as interesting to me.
