Where should I go next?
This is not an exhaustive list, but should provide you with some ideas if you're stuck. Note that exploring your surroundings should always be your priority!

Also note that the main source of information are the terminals, so be sure to login into all of them (user: alice, password: moon).

  1. Go to the moon. You can't solve any puzzle until you do.
  2. Find Pembrooke, the IT guy, to reboot the Connect server.
  3. Find Rosetta, and learn the moonstone language.
  4. Find Cyrus, and chat with him.
  5. Explore the world to pick up bits.
  6. Collect the 12 data blocks.
  7. Open the 12 Artifact rooms to collect trigger stones.
  8. Open the 12 Interface rooms to open the doors to the Moon.
Characters
Here's the list of all the characters in the game. You can find a lot of information and a lot of lore by reading their emails. To do that, you need to find their username and password, then connect on the appropriate terminal, and finally run the 'mail' command.

To find the username / passwords: once you reboot the connect server, you can check its logs to see all the network activity, including the logins. The system is not really secure because those entries contain the server, the username and the password used to login :D

Pembrooke
The IT guy. He has disappeared for a while, and is needed to reset the Connect server. He can be found in the Lower Waterworks.. The Connect server password is eclipse.

Ezri
Ezri is your lab partner. She likes Newton.
Connect: ASTRO / ezri / science

Works in engineering. He doesn't like Hound.
Connect: ENGINEER / horace / floyd

Hound
Highly ambitious person, he's the site manager for the Hilltop facility. Nobody likes him. He's up to something.
He has a secret lab in the old mines under the Lower waterworks.
He organised a party to insert some malware in Rosetta.
Connect: SECRET or HOUND / hound / ???

Gil
Hound's assistant. Timid, he didn't mingle with the others until recently.
Connect: ASSIST / gil / ihatehound

Ethan
Dig site manager, and Newton's father. Highly suspicious of Hound.
Connect: DIGLOG / ethan / p9qwbj7

Kaylie
Studies old languages.
Connect: GRAPH / kaylie / sumarian

Wilma
Power plant manager; cook; also deals with supplies.
Connect: GEN / wilma / bluesky

Ellora

Keys
Keys are collected throughout the game, and are required to unlock certain doors. Finding all the keys unlocks the Key master achievement.

Key
Locked door

There are 3 keys:
  1. Hilltop archaeology lab
  2. Private store room (Office of prof. Hound, Administration)
  3. The pumpworker office
Slates
Slates are collectibles that you can bring back to Kaylie (Hilltop archaeology lab / Paleography room) for decoding. They bring a lot of information on the Moonstone equation's origin, and shouldn't be missed if you want more information on the game's lore.

Collecting all slates unlocks the Enlightened achievement. You don't need to bring them to Kaylie for the achievement to unlock, but you'd be missing a lot!

There are 5 slates:
  1. Dig site (left, under the waterfall)
  2. The Mine (next to the upper Town's door)
  3. Moonlab access tunnel
  4. Town (near the bottom Mine door)
  5. The Underworks
Glossary
These are terms that are used throughout the game. Their meaning is revealed when playing, but it can help when you're not there yet.

Bits
Bits are the yellow dots that float around once you solve a block puzzle. They're used later in the game to unlock the Interface rooms locks.

Data blocks (aka Sentinal stones)
Data blocks are a combination of 4 blocks, organised in a square (see the data blocks section for more details). Once the 4 blocks are organised in the proper pattern, an animation is triggered, and you can collect the newly minted data block. There are 12 different combinations.

Their purpose is to unlock the corresponding data block locks, which you can find on the moon, and which block your character's progression (here, it's the block below the character). To unlock them, you need to go to the corresponding Interface room, find the console, activate it with a trigger stone, and complete it with the appropriate data block you collected in the game.

Interface and Artifact rooms
Those rooms represent the crux of the game.

The entrance to those rooms is marked by an animated symbol (such as the one shown on the left). To open them, you need to stand in front of the symbol, and use the arrow keys (or the D-Pad if you play with a controller) to repeat the animation sequence. In this example: up, left, up, right. If you performed the proper sequence, a door should appear.

Inside the Artifact rooms (red doors), you'll find a trigger stone.
Inside the Interface rooms (yellow doors), you'll find an Interface to the moon. The console is activated by a trigger stone, and completed with a data block.

Interface room lock
To unlock those, you need to have collected enough bits, then solve the puzzle.

Interface doors

Once opened, the door changes based on the room status:

Lock puzzle solved,
room opened
Trigger stone placed
Data block placed,
room is complete

Trigger stone
They can be found in the Artifact rooms, and are used to open the Interfaces to the moon.
Data blocks
Here are the 12 different patterns of the data blocks, as well as the locations where you can mint them. This list only contains the ones I found, so it might not be exhaustive.

Caution: you should keep track of the blocks you minted; otherwise you won't know the ones you missed.

Hacking
There's a hacking mi♥♥♥ame (and associated achievements) that unlocks once you've found the terminal in Hound's secret lair.
To start hacking, use the run editor command on that terminal, and follow the instructions.

A basic program can be found in one of Hound's notes:

:1 DUP 1 FILL :2 STEP

You can test your programs against a few defenses, and save it once you're happy (let's name it HAXXOR).

To use your program to hack a terminal:

  1. Connect to the terminal you want to hack (see full list in the characters section)
  2. Login as alice (alice / moon)
  3. Use the 'run' command with your program's name (e.g. RUN HAXXOR)
  4. Your program will be executed against all the terminal's defenses layers
  5. If all defenses are breached, you gain total access, and don't need to login

Achievements
  • Running your first program unlocks the Novice hacker achievement.
  • Fully hacking one terminal unlocks the Accomplished hacker achievement.
  • Fully hacking the Rosetta terminal (and running the 'core' command once breached)
    unlocks the Elite hacker achievement.
Map
Here's a diagram of all the locations in the game. To save space, I didn't show the rooms of the Hilltop buildings that led to nowhere, nor did I show the connections to the Moon.

The symbols' locations are somewhat where the doors are located on the actual level.

Legend
  • Green circles: regular doors
  • Red trapezoids: Artifact doors
  • Yellow lozanges: Interface doors

Achievements
Note that the achievements unlock once you return to the desktop, not while playing.

Hi, I can't look at the connect server logs. Am I doing something wrong?
Arbonox  [developer] 7 ago. 2019 às 0:50
I love this guide so much.

I don't know if you realize how great it feels to create something and then find that someone enjoys it enough to spend hours and days of effort to understand and document it. I'm humbled and grateful.

Thank you.

Nevermind, I found it immediately. Thanks for your help!

I'm currently replaying the game with the Complete Edition version, but it seems unlikely the data blocks changed. Beware that some data blocks are super hard to mint in certain locations, and a lot easier in others. Note that these are only the locations I found, there might be different ways to mint them elsewhere.

The map should also still be up to date, but certain locations are divided into parts that don't communicate. I should probably add some lines to show those parts :)

In the meantime, if you don't see a direct path, try another, maybe longer one.

Happy playing!

This is almost 100% correct, but it seems with my version of the game it's impossible to do some of the data blocks things that you have done.

Firstly, most of the lower waterworks data blocks are actually now only minted in different locations; for example the underworks. However, in addition, it seems that either the map is outdated or there is no way to get to the part of Hilltop underneath the upper waterworks door.

I hope you can help me figure out what's going on here!
