So, you wish to be a mage? Then you need to learn about runic magic. Some of these effects are simple, and some are far more complicated. The order of the runes can matter, so keep that in mind.

Let us start by identifying the runes:

Create/Grow, Most (ᛒ : Berkano, “Birch”)
Protect/Ward (ᛉ : Algiz, “Protection”)
Strengthen/Heal, More (ᚢ : Uruz, “Ox”)
Sense, That (ᚱ : Raidho, “Chariot”)
Weaken/Destroy, This (ᚦ : Thurisaz, “Giant”)
Control/Bind (ᚾ : Nauthiz, “Need”)
Move/Travel (ᛖ : Ehwaz, “Horse”)
Earth (ᛇ : Eihwaz, "World Tree")
Plant (ᛃ : Jera, “Harvest”)
Fire (ᚲ : Kenaz, “Torch”)
Water (ᛚ : Laguz, “Sea”)
Weather/Air (ᚺ : Hagalaz, “Hail”)
Beast (ᚠ : Fehu, “Cattle”)
Mind/Spirit (ᛏ : Tiwaz, “Leadership”)
Self/Person (ᛗ : Mannaz, “Mankind”)

For any mage, you are likely asking this basic question. How do I do damage. There are a few methods.

Many of the attack spells have the destruction rune (ᚦ : Thurisaz, “Giant”) as the first rune

From there you add the rune (ᛒ : Berkano, “Birch”) and you get the spell Magic Fist [ (ᚦ) (ᛒ) ], a level one basic ranged attack spell. There are however other ways to deal damage. Let us first talk of targeting runes.

By making the second rune one of the following, you can target a specific kind of entity:

(ᛗ : Mannaz, “Mankind”) will target a living entity, such as saurians or the assassins (Or yourself!)
(ᛃ : Jera, “Harvest”) will target plants. This can include rippers or other sources of wood
(ᛏ : Tiwaz, “Leadership”) will target the undead

The third rune is power. This can be either
Nothing for the level 1 spell, Weaken, causing a negative status effect
(ᚢ : Uruz, “Ox”) for the level 3 spell, Harm, causing 50% damage to a target
(ᛒ : Berkano, “Birch”) for the level 5 spell, Slay, instantly killing a target

If there are no other living targets nearby, (ᚦ) (ᛗ) (ᛒ) will instantly kill you, useful if you want to respawn.

The spell (ᚦ) (ᚲ), and its variants will quench fire, including a summoned fireball.

Something else that can be done with the above is starting with (ᛖ : Ehwaz, “Horse”) . This is telekenisis and can move a specific target. (ᛖ) (ᚲ) will move fire, the use of which is questionable

Starting with (ᚾ : Nauthiz, “Need”) will instead make a binding spell, rooting a target in place for a time.

(ᚢ) (ᚲ) is ignite, and will set a nearby wooden object on fire. Stronger versions of this spell even work on barricades

So, lets talk about other effects that don't have a strictly Attack or Defense use.

The most straightforward of these is Teleport (ᛖ) (ᛖ) (ᛖ), which moves you a short distance ahead over gaps at the same Z level as you. You can't use it to go up or down.

Summoning:
(ᛗ) (ᛒ) Will summon a hostile assassin(Level 1),
(ᛗ) (ᛒ) (ᚢ) will summon an allied assassin(Level 3).
(ᛗ) (ᛒ) (ᛒ) will summon an allied Saurian{Level 5}.
(ᛒ) (ᛒ) will summon a random item
(ᛃ) (ᛒ) Will summon a plantball
(ᚲ) (ᛒ) Will summon a fireball

Healing:
Starting a spell with (ᚢ : Uruz, “Ox”) and using the targeting/power runes above will heal a target.
