Door Gunner

Door gunner can be played with only your mouse. So if you want to try something new (or you're lazy and don't want to sweat it), consider the door gunner.

Huey Door Gunner
Armed with M60 and 500 rounds, your role as Huey door gunner is to secure LZ for your pilot. It is important that you start suppressing your surroundings once Huey starts landing.

Ideally, your gunfire will stagger the RPG-slinging enemy's aim, in turn saving yourself, pilots and the passangers. Your deeds will be remembered... by nobody but yourself.

Tell your pilot if you decide to stay in the helicopter (preferably in voice chat). Otherwise you remain on the ground for longer than necessary and endanger your teammates.

Bushranger Door Gunner
Bushie is an attack-helicopter unlike Huey. It is inferior to the American AH-1G Cobra in terms of speed and firepower, and therefore compensates with two door gunners. This in turn changes your role from part-time to full-time crew member.

Door gunner's arsenal in Bushranger is the same as Huey's: M60 and 500 rounds. In game it appears that you have two machinegun's at your disposal - it is an illusion. In reality, it is the same M60 but with a different model.

Assist your pilots by suppressing targets and firing at the tunnels. Also unlike Huey, Bushranger will return to the base a lot to re-stock ammo, so don't be conservative with your rounds.

Ultimately
- Your primary objective is suppression.
- You fire to keep your pilots safe.
- You fire to annoy enemies on the ground.
- Your role comes down to spraying-and-praying (do not expect many kills).

If you ever played door gunner, you know that it can feel like you're doing nothing.
However, your suppressive fire can occasionally help your pilot, as well as your ground teammates.

And sometimes, it can even kill someone.
Tips
These are the things you can do to improve your gameplay:

1. Turn up your mouse sensitivity.
Default mouse sensitivity in RS2 is 35 or something like that. You will be lucky to ever land a shot on anything as a door gunner like that, so you have to change it.

I put mine on max, however it might be different for you. Just make sure that you can turn around fluently and "lock-on" a target even if your helicopter is changing direction. Hueys will cut into the LZ, and Bushranger will strafe ground targets, so it is important that you can control your gun in these situations.

2. Helicopter Layout.
Helicopter's seat layout is at the bottom left of your screen when you're inside. You can actually switch your position to any vacant seat if you press number keys.

(Left: Huey; Right: Bushranger)
Seats 1 and 2 are only available to pilots. Seat 3 is left gunner and seat 4 is right gunner for both helicopters. You can switch position to any other free seat at any time. This becomes very useful if your pilot maneuvers around LZ or strafes ground targets. So instead of seizing fire on your target, you can hop into the other seat (if its free) and continue firing.

3. Bullet Drop.
Your mounted M60 is affected by bullet drop like any other weapon.
However, there is no way to adjust your sights to particular shooting distance, so you will just have to know approximate way of aiming to account for bullet drop.
You also need to lead your targets because helicopters fly at high speeds.
Machinegun is not affected by bullet drop at under 200m.
Aim higher for targets that are further than that. I never hit anything further than 350m but maybe you will.
"Get Some!" Achievement
It is the main reason why anyone would keep playing gunner. Unfortunately, it is a door gunner achievement, so its gonna take a while. Few things you can do to make it easier:

- You are less likely to get door gunner kills on Supremacy because of the game-mode's nature. Enemies will be spread out and squad tunnels will be all over the map which reduces your chance of ever hitting anyone. Getting 25 kills is already a grind, so don't make it harder for yourself.
Instead, there are plenty of community-made Territories maps that include helicopters and that is what you want. Averaging 2-3 kills a match means you're doing very good.

Maps best suited for this achievement:
- VNTE_BorderWatch
- VNTE_Resort
- VNTE_RedRidge
- VNTE_DawnOfTet

- Your best opportunity to get a kill is during recon and Loach flyovers. Check your map and suppress enemy-controlled objective. Keep spraying but be smart with it (you'd be surprised how many tk's you can get with door gunner).

- VNTE_Resort is particularly good for this achievement. There are 4 Hueys which means its easy for you to secure a spot. Most of the time, pilots will suck on this map, flying or landing close to the objective - terrible for your team, but good for your achievement. Start spraying once you're within 250m distance from your targets.

There is another thing you can do if your team manages to push the game beyond first two objectives on Resort. Your mounted M60 has no recoil and it's extremely good at wallbanging buildings in C and D points. Huey will land on the flanks of these points, close enough for you to start mercilessly spraying everything in your sight and potentially scoring few kills. This will result in a much quicker progression than doing flyovers for an entire round and getting the same amount of kills.

My pilot landed at this spot, which gave me a perfect drop on the enemies. You are exposed and immobile, however you will also save a lot of time if you do this. After about a minute I managed few kills. This is just an example of this strat, but you get the idea.

End
Hope this was helpful for anyone interested.
Good luck with your door gunner kills.

You should mention that you can scroll down to exit the iron sight, to get a clearer field of view, and you can aim by tracers.
