Introduction
This guide will cover the basics of how to file a report against a problematic player. It will also go into detail about reportable offences and how you can help make the Dota 2 community a better place.

How to Report a Player
Accurately and fairly reporting problematic or disruptive characters will help to keep the Dota 2 community fun for everyone. The Report Player tool should not be abused, only file a report if you believe there is a valid claim to misconduct.

In order to file a report against somebody you need to be playing in the same game as them regardless of which team they're on. Spectators cannot report players in the game that they're watching.

To access the report screen pull up the scoreboard. This is represented by a list icon at the top left side of the HUD.

Once you have the scoreboard pulled up locate the name of the player that you want to file a report against. Click on their name once and select the Report Player option from the menu.

Once you've selected the Report Player option from the menu you'll then see the Report Player screen. From here you can select a category and type in any additional information to add to the report.

Once you're done filling in all of the fields click Submit and your report against that player will be filed.

At the bottom of the screen you'll see how many reports you've previous filed and how many more you're able to submit today. You'll receive an additional report submission if someone you reported subsequently receives a communication ban.

The next few sections of the guide will go in to more detail about each category.
Communication Abuse
The Communication Abuse category is used for players who are abusive over voice or text communication channels. There are many examples of this such as microphone or text spamming, abusive language towards others, harassment and so on. In general, if you don't approve of the way that the player is communicating to everybody else in the game, file a report.

If somebody is being abusive in the game, don't engage in conversation with them. From the scoreboard you can click on the white speaker icon to the right of their name and it will prevent them from being able to communicate with you further. If you wish to remove the personal mute, click the button again.

Intentional Ability Abuse
If somebody is purposely using an ability that causes their own team problems, this would be filed under the Intentional Ability Abuse category.

An example of this would be if your team has an Earthshaker and he kept using Fissure to prevent his own team from moving past a certain point. Or perhaps a Pudge who is constantly hooking teammates to prevent them from last hitting.

Keep in mind that accidents do happen, but if it becomes clear to you that the player is doing this on purpose, file a report.

It's also a good idea to leave a brief comment in the More Information box specifying the action of the player so it's easier to spot for the person reviewing the replay.
Intentional Feeding
Feeding is a term used to describe when somebody has been killed in the game and has fed the enemy team gold and experience.

If somebody is purposely feeding by constantly running in and dying, or purposely being reckless to aid the other team you'll file a report under the Intentional Feeding category.

Be mindful before reporting a player for feeding to make sure that they are actually doing it on purpose. Lots of people have bad games, and they might just be making mistakes.
What Happens Next?
After a report has been submitted the player will be investigated for their actions. The punishment will vary depending on what they have been reported for and how many times they've been banned before.

The punishments can vary from communication bans to being placed in the low priority queue. Depending on the the case the punishment could be a lot more severe.

If a player you've reported has action taken against them you'll receive a popup notification letting you know of it the next time you load up Dota 2. If action was taken against the player you reported you'll receive an additional report to use.

Would pausing ever be reportable under the "intentional ability abuse" guideline? I've run into multiple players--teammates and opponents--who find it necessary to pause and insult the opposing team. This interrupts the game's flow, wastes time, and is ultimately a toxic use of all chat. I'd like to be reporting it, but I don't know that it's a viable thing to report.

Thank you for the guide.

I've recently noticed a few players that feed the enemy on purpose throughout the game……they don't even try to hide it. They walk into the middle of a group….die….spawn….do it again. The weird thing is when I try to report them, I can't!? You click on their name but you don't get the drop down. Every time this has happened I also notice that there are players on the other team that you can't click on also……..has anyone else encountered this or know anything about it?

Some guy wanted to repoert me just because I was bad at playing, Good thing another backed me up by asking me how long i had been playing for. I mean i've only had it for 4 days not even that. but the idiot wouldnt listen. i didnt get perma mute. for a week or anything. but i have to agree that the muted for a week thing is stupid. i would understand if it made it so that person that filed the report couldnt hear the person he reported. but making it so no one can hear you. thats just plain rediculous
