Overview:

Hey guys today im going to be showing a roleplaying build I made based on the popular Forgotten Realms character Drizzt Do'Urden. He is a male Drow Ranger that dual wields scimitars and is very agile and quick. Since he is a Drow he has some innate magical abilities, that i have tried to imitate through items and consumables like scrolls. Obviously Pillars of Eternity and the Forgotten Realms are set in different universes so not everything about the character can be translated equally well, but I have tried my best to stay true to the character. I have chosen the Ranger subclass Ghost Heart because Drizzt does not have a constant animal companion. Instead he summons a magical Panther called Guenhwyvar from the Astral Plane. I have made a small mod that changes the Ghost Hearts Lion animal companion into a Panther instead. Since Drizzt focuses intently on perfecting his fighting skills with his dual scimitars
I have chosen Devoted Fighter as the second class.

Favored dispositions: Honest, Benevolent, Clever.

Guenhwyvar mod[www.nexusmods.com]

Extract the zip and put the Guenhwyvar folder into the PillarsOfEternityII_Data/Override folder

In the video i hadn't added spell duration but thats now fixed in the mod.
At the moment Ghost Heart Pet AI is bugged so you need to reenable it every time you summon the pet, this has nothing to do with the mod.
Attributes:
  • Might - 10
  • Constitution 8
  • Dexterity - 19
  • Perception - 20
  • Intellect - 18
  • Resolve - 3

This is my suggestion for attributes. They are what I would use if I were to min/max, and apart from the low Resolve I think they fit the character. He is very dexterous/Perceptive/Intelligent
but as an elf he doesnt have very high strength (Might) or high Constitution. You can definetly tweak these if you want resolve to be more lore friendly.
Role: Frontline dps. Dive backline. Off tank.
Race: Elf. Neither Elf looks like a Drow (Drows can vary in colour but Drizzt is black). Wood Elf resistance to Dexterity Afflic
Level progression:
  • Level 1: Wounding Shot/Disciplined Barrage
  • Level 2: Marked Prey
  • Level 3: Vicious Companion
  • Level 4: Two Weapon Style/Fighter Stances
  • Level 5: Confident Aim
  • Level 6: Determination
  • Level 7: Penetrating Strike/Accurate Wounding Shot
  • Level 8: Disciplined Strikes
  • Level 9: Marked for the Hunt
  • Level 10: Predator's Sense/Charge
  • Level 11: Weapon Specialization
  • Level 12: Vigorous Defense
  • Level 13: Binding Roots/Conqurerer Stance
  • Level 14: Uncanny Luck
  • Level 15: Superior Deflection
  • Level 16: Survival of the Fittest/Refreshing Defense
  • Level 17: Improved Critical
  • Level 18: Spell Resistance
  • Level 19: Thorny Roots/Unbreakable
  • Level 20: Weapon Mastery
Skills:
Active:
Athletics for Second wind
Arcana for scrolls (Drizzt is very magically adept but not a wizard)

Passive:

Max Survival for Ruata's Walking Cloak
Weapon Proficiencies:
  • Sabre

There is no Scimitar proficiency in the game. Saber comes the closest (There is even one saber called Sashas Singing Scimitar). Both Sabre and Scimitar are curved cavalry swords. The word Scimitar is derived from the Persian word for sabre and Drizzt dual wields Scimitars.
Pros:
  • Good build even though it isn't min/maxed
  • Pet is immune to disengagement attacks. With Charge you can both get into the backline quite easily and wreck havoc
  • Both the ranger and pet function as off tanks
  • Devoted passive synergizes very well with Accurate Wounding Shot
  • Good Crit Synergy from Gear/Abilities that synergizes with Devoted passive
  • No Bonded Grief
  • Lots of affliction resistance with Gear/Abilities/Wood Elf Racial
  • Ruata's Walking Cloak gives lots of stride so you can quickly move through the battlefield
  • High Arcana adds utility through scrolls
Cons:
  • Ghost Heart probably isn't the greatest subclass. Benefits doesn't really outweigh the penalty. You can do the exact same build with Stalker and it probably is stronger but less lore friendly, because Guenhwyvar is a magically summoned panther.
  • Sabres only deal slash damage so you are weak vs slash resistant targets. Devoted gets penalties from using non proficient weapons.
  • Isn't Min/Maxed
  • Ghost Heart Pet AI currently bugged
Equipment/Gear:
There is no Sabre (Scimitar) in the game that gives you defensive properties like Twinkle but Min's Fortune does simulate Twinkle's Ability to Strike True.
Tarn's Respite deals frost damage just like Icingdeath is a +3 frost weapon. Both Aegor's Swift Touch and Rokowa's Fingers adds weapon speed (5% action speed vs +1 dex) and Spark Crackers is similarto the Drow racial Dancing Lights. Ruata's Walking Cloak gives a lot of stride which makes him run very quickly like Drizzt. He wears a Mithral Chain Mail +4. No Armor that is identical but the
two most similar/strongest in my opinion is Magnera's Chain because its an actual chain mail and Devil of Caroc Breastplate because it has reduced recovery time (Mithral is lightweight) Of the two
Devil of Caroc Breastplate is probably stronger.

Tarn's Respite(Aka Icingdeath):[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Cold Steel: +1 Penetration +20% Damage as Freeze. Brittle Frost -1 target Deflection for 60 sec on Hit (stacks 10 times)
Min's Fortune(Aka Twinkle):[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Long Odds: Stacking +2% Crit chance on Hit (stacks 50 times and resets on Crit). Lucky Strike +20% Crit damage
Equipment:
  • Helm - Fair Favor:[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Swashbuckling: 15% Hit to Crit chance and 20% Crit damage With Daggers, Rapiers, Sabres, Stilettos, and Swords.
  • Neck 1 - Precognition;[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Heads, I Win: -75% Crit Damage taken Tails, You Lose: +25% Crit Damage given
  • Neck 2 - Claim and Refusal[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] +10% Damage taken from melee attacks, +15% Damage with melee attacks

  • Riveted Links: +2 Pierce Armor Rating
  • Chest 2 - Devil of Caroc Breastplate[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Articulated: -10% Recovery Time Soul Fragment: +2 max Power Pool
  • Ring 1 - Ring 1 - Chameleon's Touch,[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Versatile: Gives +1 to an Attribute and a Skill determined by the User's class.
  • Ring 2 - Entonia Signet Ring[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Inviolate: +3 Defenses per engagement (stacks 5 times), +2 Diplomacy
  • Boots - Pathfinder's Boots;[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Light Step: +5 Reflex. Unhindered: +1 Dexterity, +1 Athletics.
  • Belt - The Undying Burden:[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Dig Deep: +1 Athletics Grit: Incoming weapon damage reduced as health is lost (max of-10% to damage) Of Constitution: +2 Constitution
  • Gloves 1 - Rokowa's Fingers(aka Bracers of Blinding Strike)[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Skillful Dodger: +1 Dexterity, +1 Sleight of Hand. Grants Spark Crackers(Aka Dancing Lights).

  • Cloak - Ruata's Walking Cloak[pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com] Well-traveled: +1 Diplomacy and Survival. Unburdened: +20% Stride (increases with Survival skill), +5 Reflex
  • Pet - Pet - Nalvi (Dog): Reduce recover Penalty for armor (varies by type) - Party Wide
Consumables:
  • Mouth Char: Mouth Char -5% damage taken, +15% melee damage dealt for 180 sec
  • Potion of Perfect Aim: % Missses to Grazes / Grazes to Hits / Hits to Crits conversion
  • Scroll of Embrace of the Earth Talon (Requires 7 Arcana): Supposed to mimick his innate spell Spike Growth.
  • Scroll of Withdrawal. Mimicks his racial ability to cast Darkness and retreat to fight at a more advantagous time.
Core Abilities:
  • Accurate Wounding Shot - The ranger aims for a spot that will leave a trail to track, inflicting Raw Damage over time to the target. (Accurate Wounding Shot) - The ranger's aim becomes far more accurate.
  • Marked for the Hunt - Designates a single target as prey, giving the ranger and animal companion an Accuracy bonus against that target. (Marked for the Hunt) - If the prey is killed, the mark will jump to a nearby enemy.
  • Thorny Roots - Conjures roots from the ground underneath a target, causing them to become Immobilized. (Thorny Roots) - Adds nasty thorns that deal Pierce/Slash damage
  • Survival of the Fittest - While Hurt or better, the ranger and their animal companion both gain an Accuracy bonus against any enemies that are Bloodied or worse.
  • Vicious Companion - Trains the ranger's animal companion in vicious tactics, causing it to deal more damage and penetrate armor more effectively.
  • Stalker's Link - Long experience fighting together enables the ranger and animal companion to fight as a highly efficient team. The Ranger's animal companion gains +1 Engagement. (Stalker's Link) - The ranger now also gains and Accuracy bonus when fighting any enemy threatened by the animal companion
  • Penetrating Strike - The fighter strikes their target with devastating force, gaining significant additional Penetration during the attack
  • Disciplined Strikes - The fighter intensely focuses on his or her training, gaining the Aware Inspiration for a short time. (Disciplined Strikes)- Aware Inspiration is now improved to the Intuitive Inspiration
  • Charge - The fighter dashes across the battlefield in a flash, Stunning anyone caught in their path.
  • Conqueror Stance - The fighter adopts a balanced strategy apt for standing toe-to-toe with a single combatant. While in this stance the fighter gains Increased Accuracy and Deflection. (Conqueror Stance) - When Hurt or above, the fighter's Accuracy bonus increases. When Bloodied or below, the fighter's Deflection bonus increases.
  • Refreshing Defense - The fighter becomes fiercely determined to deflect all incoming blows, dramatically increasing all Defenses for a short time. (Refreshing Defense) - Each time the fighter takes damage, the duration extends.

I feel like though drizzt is a ranger in dnd rule set, rogue(trickster for the mobility and dazzling lights=sphere of darkness) or barbarian(early series he struggles to keep himself from going into a frenzy, and carnage being a good analogy for how fast and able to engage multiple foes) much better suits him in terms of actual play, and then mod the cat figurine. I would go so far as to argue to drop fighter for the rogue/barb as devoted really doesnt fit him despite the mastery of scimitars as he was proficient in basically every weapon that fit his size from a child.
