♦ Starting Attributes:
  • 10 Might
The build could make good use of Might for the lash damage this build used and better Soul Annihilation to get noticeable better damage output, if wanted player can trade Intelligence for Might although it will become more micro-heavy if the build was to utilized that way.

  • 8 Constitution
More or less CON wouldn't make that big a of difference in this build, instead it can utilize Armor Rating to be a durable front-liner with the gear used and Paladin passive to shake off enemy damage. At late game you will need to have a Spirit Shield potion to surpass enemy penetrations.

  • 20 Dexterity
Dexterity is good for fast Focus build up, although the build already have a good amount of stacking Action Speed, maxing it isn't really for your weapons as they already hit really fast but for your spells speed so that they can be casted quickly and wasted no time for the character before returning to combat.

  • 15 Perception
Similar case as above, this build already used Accuracy-based weapons and enough boosting Acc passives/gear to be accurate, the extra Perception is to make sure the spells land on it targets.

  • 15 Intellect
Resources is not a problem for Cipher spells as they are infinite and quick to come for a fast melee Draining playstyle so most of their spells are very spammable. Intellect is to improve quality of life and lessen the micro-management on the character with long lasting debuffs / buffs, allow the character to spend more time in melee combat after the spells are casted. Otherwise, if you trade Intelligence for more Might, then it will get more micro-heavy as the character will have to often keep their spells up.

  • 10 Resolve
Default is enough, it isn't recommended to dump Res in this case where the build make use on Armor, because if the enemies were allowed to score easy crits on the character then they would penetrate your thick armor. As a Paladin, the help of your offense/defense spells of Cipher, this build can achieve a good amount of Deflection and debuffs that give enemy hard times hitting the character.

Wood Elf and Deadfire Archipelago are used for this guide.

  • Charm of Bones (Neck): +2 Intellect, +5 Accuracy vs Vessels, Grants Call of the Restless.

  • Magnera's Chain (Medium): +2 Crush & Pierce Armor Rating, +10 Fortitude, +10 Will. Enemies who critically hit the character with weapons will receive +5% recovery time (stacks 3 times).

  • Chamelon's Touch Ring: +1 Might (Paladin), +1 Perception (Cipher)

  • Ring of Focused Flame: +10 Accuracy on Fire attacks. (this bonus applies on both Flames of Devotion as it has Fire keyword and Sun Moon flail as it has fire elemental based attacks)

  • Boots of Stone: +1 Dexterity, +1 Resolve, + Resistance to Might afflictions

  • The Maker's Own Power (Belt): +1 Might, +1 Crush Armor Rating. Grants Reforge the Flesh on Near Death.

  • Woedica's Strangling Grasp: +2 Might, +2 Burn Armor Rating. Grants Garrote.

  • Cloak of Greater Deflection: +7 Deflection

  • Nalvi (Dog) -% Recovery penalty for armor, varies by armor type (Party-wide)

✦ Weapon:
  • Rannig's Wrath (Rapier): +5 Accuracy, +4 Melee Accuracy, +10% Action Speed, +10% Damage against Flanked target. +10 Deflection when critically Hit by weapons.
    Rapier Modal: +20 Accuracy, +50% Recovery time for Rapier weapon attacks.

  • Sun and Moon (Flail): +10% Grazes converted to Hits, Hits twice with reduced damage (Sun adds 25% Burn damage, Moon adds 25% Freeze damage). Freeze damage from weapons reduce target max HP by 50% damage dealt. Grants +2 Fire Power Level in Day time.
    Grants Solar Excellence which gives 0,5% chance to repeat Fire attacks twice, this applies on Sun and Moon attack, occasionally allow the weapon to attack twice similar like it's own Swift Flurry effect for the weapon.

✎ Abilities Preview
♦ Soulblade Subclass:
  • Bonus: Grants Soul Annihilation strike, an attack that deals strong Raw damage by consuming all of character current Focus. Cipher Shred spells cost are reduced.
♦ Bleakwalker Subclass:
  • Bonus: Grants Black Flames of Devotion, dealing additional Corrode damage and apply Sickened on target, reducing their HP so they can be taken down quickly.

✦ Abilities:
  • Eternal Devotion: a Full Attack that does additional Burn and Corrode lash damage based on your weapons damage, it also Sickened targeted enemy, reducing max HP and leaving it vulnerable for a quick take down.

  • Sworn Rival: marked target receives +20% more incoming damage, you can mark mutiple enemies at once, it lasts until for the entire battle and has only low cast time with no recovery so you can use it everytime on an enemy you are dealing with. When upgraded, the cost is refunded when the marked targets are dead.

  • Recall Agony: marked target have it incoming damage dealt reapplied again with 30% damage as Raw. Normally, you don't need to put it on every enemies you fight, only one those tanky targets or the ones you really wanted to be put down fast.

  • Soul Annihilation: Unleash all current Focus and deal Strong Raw damage based on consumed Focus and also scale with Might. Normally you don't really need to wait until full Focus to use this ability, as often enemies are already too low for the attack, using it on un-prepped enemies would be inefficient and leave current enemy alive for an unecessary amount of time. Use Soul Annihilation whenever you have the sufficient Focus & the target is Bloodied to finish them off quickly then move on other targets.

  • Toxic Coils: a gap closer granted from Grotto Deep head, blink to targeted enemy and deal AoE Corrode damage, applying Weakened status to everyone in the area on impact, reducing HP to affected targets.

  • Eyestrike: a low cost and starting ability of Cipher, yet very useful debuff that Blinded enemies in an AoE (-10 Accuracy, -5 Perception, +50% Recoverytime, -50% Range, Flanked status which -10 Deflection, -1 Armor Rating). It can be used to give enemy hard time attacking you or shut down ranged enemies and force them to move closer.

  • Echoing Horror: enemies nearby are Fightened (-5 RES, -3 All Power Levels, unable to cast hostile abilites) whenever the character personally kill an enemy.

  • Lingering Echoes: +10% Affliction Duration caused by the character.

  • Borrowed Instinct: +20 Accuracy and All Defenses, also apply a stats penalty debuff to target enemy of -8 Intellect & Perception.

  • Stoic Steel: +1 Armor Rating per 6s when fighting stationary, up to +3 Armor Rating max.

  • Inspiring Triumph: +12 All Defenses to allies whenever you personally kill an enemy.

  • Exalted Focus: +5 Accuracy, +5% Hits to Crits conversion.

  • The Empty Soul: +10 Accuracy with Cipher spells that target vs Will.

  • Draining Whip: +20% Damage with weapons, +100% Focus Gain.

  • Retribution: +5% Damage with weapons when character is hit in combat. (stacks 5 times)

  • Hammering Thoughts: +1 Penetration to weapons.

  • Scion of Flame: +1 Fire penetration.

  • Divine Purpose: +20 Defenses to Might / Dexterity / Constitution affliction attacks.

  • Reforge the Flesh: when Near Death, you are Paralyzed and start healing up constantly while having a +85% Damage Reduction.

Can this be more of a ranged build than offtank? Don't want to have too many front liners in my party comp and concerned this will be too up-front for my composition

Totally understand. Appreciate you considering the beserker. Your guides are seriously excellent and ive subscribed to your youtube. Just out of interest do you prefer deadfire or original sin 2?

I'm not planning to make a ranged build for serafen. As for a berserker build, may be or maybe not, as i'm starting to get burn-out from the game, i'll keep that in mind though.
