How To Get Good at SpeedRunners
By Juuouki
The major theme towards this guide is my following examples of finding ways to improve in SpeedRunners. This guide should be suitable to all players looking to become better at the game or keep up their skill and enhance them for either unfair difficulty bots or online players up to challenge.

Getting Started
Make yourself comfortable in the world of New Rush City with the game's Story Mode. Start out slowly and adapt with the game from its controls to your progession within the maps. At this time, you should focus on completing the entire story mode and further challenge yourself by slowly increasing the intelligence of your A.I opponents.
Challenge Yourself With Unfair Bots
How fast do you think you can eliminate all three unfair bots depending on the map you race in? Put you and your skills to the test to see how quick you can dominate in your stronger maps in contrast to your weaker maps. For example, you might be really good playing in SS Royale, but quite shabby in regards to Zoo. Take note of these conclusions and try to practice on your own with solo runs on the official maps.
Find your strong and weak maps (Officials and Workshops)
As I mentioned before with my example, you might be good in a few maps but on the other hand weak with others. Spend a lot of time playing in random maps and examine how well you can do with your skills in the maps, depending on how your skills merge with your personality with the game. Examples of these personalities include mastering deep swings, (Grapples that maintain high falls to obtain speed if careful with your swings) library swings, (consecutive swings that require quick timing reflexes within jumping out of swings and grappling into newer swings whilst descending from the map) etc. I'll definitely get into those terms along with other terminology used in the game in separate sections. Soon, you can be overall great at all the maps!
Step Up To Online
Once you feel like you've really gotten sharp and familiar with singeplayer mode with at least one chapter of unfair completed, import your skills onto the online unvierse! Seek other players' skills and challenge yourself with much more intense gameplay. Aim for ranked matches if you desire ranking up in leagues or quick matches to witness skills from other players that appear to be stronger and weaker than you. Take note of everything you see within online from players of low I.Q and other mastered players maintaining super speed for merciful seconds with or without the sudden death phase. Take A Moment To See How You're Doing
Whether you feel like you've gotten much better with the use of my examples or not so much or simply increasing experience on your own, always check your statistics and gameplay with how you're doing in matches. Should you bring awareness and vitality towards your skills, practice them each time you play Speedrunners and heavily adapt towards the flow of the game. You should also study the game mentally with memorization of maps and knowing what to do when competition gets heated with others.
Find a Mentor To Train You
If you feel like you can't learn on your own and focus on your improvements, searching for highly skilled players or close friends that either have a lot of hours on them or massive skill can definitely help. Mentors can show you the ropes with everything you need to know about the game. Slides, item use, calculations, the maps, tricks, terminollogy, you name it. A good mentor willing to help a player need has your back. Take advantage of their time and always ask for assistance. You can even duel against your mentor to see how different the two of play. Mentors are a great solution to problems you specifically have within the game. Ask them questions, focus on specific topics, and pay attention to what they bring to the table!
The Right and Wrong Paths on Maps
There are many maps that have better paths to take than others. Mostly, those better paths benefit the runners with speed, items, or even an instant win for the round. Studying these paths within the level can help you greatly with the time you take to choose between them. Here's an example of what two paths are like in Zoo and how picking the better path is a greater idea. This little swing here would take you to a greater path because not only does it reduce the time it takes to run all the way to the right to climb the walls, but it gives you boost also! You can climb those walls with the bonus of applying speed to your run. HERE'S A TIP: Don't EVER use boost while jumping in a specific direction you want to go in. It breaks all flow in speed and it could severely screw up your chances in applying speed unless you were above a slope/below a grapple. Overall, don't make this mistake. Here is another example of how paths can make big differences
These are grand examples of what the paths can do for you. One path offered a boost collector and a good slope to go along with it. Even if I didn't hit that slope, swinging across the grapple would be as efficient to get across with greater speed. Zoo along with other official maps and many workshop maps have many paths for you to choose from.
Terminology
Now, it's time to talk about terminology. You know: The terms players commonly use to mentally strategize themselves within games and getting to know what SpeedRunners has to offer as a whole. These are where the tricks and traps of the gameplay come in. You'll be needing these terms in order to enchance your skills greatly within what they are and how they work.

Tackle

Can be performed by simply pressing whatever key makes your runner slide. Tackles can occur by sliding into an opponent at specfic speed. Once you've completely calculated a tackle on a runner, all of their speed will diminish back to square one. Tackles are essential for interrupting the flow of players much like crates do to stop their speed.

Slopes

Platforms that have diagonal curves in them going downwards regardless of left and right. Slopes can appear on the ground or the ceiling depending on the design of the level. In order to surface down slopes, you need to slide down them to get intense speed based on the falling height you've accumulated in your run. Commonly, slopes appear after swinging from grapples and can be used to gain speed off the ground easily as long as you remember to slide by pressing your assigned key that makes you slide. This GIF is a perfect example of what slopes can do to your speed. While the runner wasn't sliding, he was frozen as he still gained the speed he needed to win that round. The same could have been done if he swung his way down and then slid down the slope to gain even more speed.

Library Swings

These are Library Swings and what they look like. We call them that because those swings first originated in the official map Library. They look just like platforms, except you are required to swing and gain speed as you descend from the map. This is the basic premise of Library Swings, and they take time to master as well. To pull off library swings, you need to swing in one direction, barely tap the swing button to fall and quickly rebound with another swing to jump out of. While hard to explain, it can be demonstrated easily, so you should grab a friend or your mentor to teach you this technique. This is an exmaple of what successful Library Swings look like. Not too great due to Bandicam making it laggy. Sorry for that.

Spam Grapple

This term is self-explanatory, but a bit tricky to do at first. Spam grapples are close grapples you swing on but also require you to quickly jump out of them right after. These grapples are good for maintaining speed during long, straightfoward grapples you come across in the game. Here is an example to show what these swings look like:As you can see, I'm continously making SpeedRunner quickly jump out of his close grabs every time I use grapple. This is what correct spam grappling looks like. And just like jumping, it can be used to keep greatly achieved speed. The overall rule of not losing speed is simple: DO NOT TOUCH THE FLOOR! Or else Hothead will rage at ya. :P

Reverse Library Swings

These are just what they sound like: Library Swings but the complete opposite direction. With these swings, you need to ascend instead of descend. Zoo offers a great example of what this really is. Again, it's hard to explain with this term, but I'm gonna try anyway! To climb up Library Swings, you need to sort of create your own speed from grapples. The trick is to use grapple but prevent yourself from swinging the first time until you drop in height. After you do so, your next swing should create some sort of speed for you to easily go upward in your Library Swings. Here is a visual representation of what this should look like: As we see here, it kinda looks as if I'm doing upside down Library Swings. These can be done easily once you've gotten a good understanding of concepts in swinging. The image also shows an example of how to create your own speed from swings that look like this!
Items/Obstacles
Now, let's talk about items. As you know, there are obviously different items in the game and they do different things, But, you have to really know what they do and how you can always use them as an advantage if used correctly.

Crates

You know you've already ran into these little fools by accident on your way to the finish line. They're placed simply to crumble up your flow of speed and probably take you all the way back to last place, or even elimination. Once you pick up crates as an item, you can use them for more than just blocking runners! They can be placed in narrow spots where they cannot be dodged, or can come at legendary use when in sudden death mode. Crates can also be used whilst climbing walls. While you're climbing the walls, you can drop crates below on runners and they will lose their flow in climbing and can even be eliminated easily! This technique can also be used towards sliding, where you can tackle runners mid-air while climbing or in the air of warp speed! Crates can also block rockets if timed right in front of them and used to block better paths. Be careful though. You can fall over on your own crates! However, blocks cannot block fireballs or shockwaves.

Shockwave

A more advanced item that can be used for many suitable things. Primarily, shockwaves ricochet anything in its direction, This includes runners, rockets, and fireballs. Think of how cool it would be using a shockwave against a fireball and hitting a runner with their own fireball! That would sure pack a punch into the lead. Shockwaves are very good for using anywhere from 1st to 3rd place most of the time. Most items except Bomb Detonator has good use for all places.

Fireball

An expert item that can be used to destroy any runners and items in the way. Fireballs are commonly used to daze runners in the lead and take out all of their items that were supposed to be used to block unaware runners. Sometimes, fireballs can ricochet away from the intended direction and you can get hit by your own fireball! Watch out for that and be careful to not let it happen.

Drill

The Drill item is very essential for runners in last place way behind that need to catch up on speed. Not only do drills give you granted speed, but they also allow tackles towards other runners up front! This item drop is high when in last place as crate item drops are high in first place.

Bomb Detonator

An expert item that can be exclusively used. The Bomb Detonator can either give or deny speed to runners. This item would require the most timing out of all items, as you are required to use your assigned item key TWICE. They can be used at anytime, whether it'd be far away or up close. You can use them to benefit yourself with a littlle burst of speed, or stop incoming runners at top speed. The blast radius is so powerful that it can interrupt runners from speed and especially climbing! Once put into good use, they can give off fantastic positives! Be careful not to bomb yourself the wrong way tthough.

Freeze Lazer

A very self-explanatory item that can come into perfect use if timed correctly. This item is best used while players are in the air so they don't slide under the freeze beam. You can use the freeze lazer in front of and behind you to either freeze runners in front or behind you. (THE SAME APPLIES FOR FIREBALL, ROCKETS, SHOCKWAVES, and ROCKETS)

Homing Rockets

An item that is easy to use, but needs clearance and planning before use. Rockets are best used behind runners you'd want to target, unless you plan ahead on using them up close. Rockets and Bomb Detonators have just about the same blast radius. The only difference between them is rockets can greatly backfire on you if not used with technical and intellectual properties.

Spikes

You've seen them in pretty much every video game platformer you've played. Avoid at all costs. but, if you're going to take a path that leads into spikes or a red spike like Library, be very careful! Red spikes can result to instant elimination as your runner will fall off the map!

Rotating Lazers

The yellow lazers that can gracefully stun you without a good chance to recover. Avoid these.
Conclusion
Thanks for reading the entire guide. I really hope it helps players in the long run and makes them better at the game not only with their skills and their confidence. I give props and respect to many of the players that are devoted to getting stronger at the game and vouch for others that have mastered the game overall. Keep at it. And if this guide did not help you in the ways you wanted it to, I apologize for that. I've taken a lot of my time to create this guide and try my best to share it with the community, hoping it does good for players in need of something like this. It may not be 100% accurate, but it will be something for people to see. The thought of this is what counted along with the time, of course. As for my closing statement, HAVE FUN SPEEDRUNNING IN NEW RUSH CITY!!!
