Harran Prison: Speedrun Guide (with no Night Hunter Boosters)
By costas
This guide is dedicated to players who wish to speedrun Harran Prison to the best possible time, with the use of Night Hunter boosters.
This guide will also serve to players who can't (or don't want to) have access to Night Hunter boosters. We will try and go into as much detail as possible, which will include some images and videos.
First we will share tips in 'Story/Normal' difficulty, and then 'Hard'/'Nightmare' together. But please note that we will NOT be doing a general walkthrough of Harran Prison, these are just tips and advice to make your run faster.

Introduction
Harran Prison (or Prison Heist) is a free DLC for everyone to play (which was released back in March 2018), whether you just started or have mastered the art of Dying Light. To access the DLC, you will first need to highlight the objective in the menu, and then find the boat on the coast of Slums to allow you to fast travel there. Or simply find the poster in Brecken's Tower just outside your resting room (after you find the boat).

Harran Prison consists of a series of rooms that players must complete to get to the armory, which includes killing a wave of zombies and picking Hard locks of doors in order to advance. When you finish the run, players will be able to enter the Armory which contains plenty of lootable items. This can include typical throwing items, medkits, boosters, crafting materials, upgrades, ammunition, rare quest items (Bomber Kidney, Venom Gland etc.) and more importantly melee weapons. The time you have to loot will depend on:
- Your current difficulty (Story/Normal/Hard/Nightmare)
- How many players in the lobby (the more players, the less time to loot. Each player in the lobby shaves -10 seconds off the looting time)
- The time you completed the Prison Heist

The variety of the melee weapons found in boxes will depend on:
- The time you completed the Prison Heist
- Your Survivor Rank

Again, this is a guide on how to speedrun the Prison. But at the end of the day, it can be named multiple titles like "How to farm Gold-tier melee weapons" or "How to farm King mods". Either which, you can call it any since you will always be doing the same thing.
Why no Night Hunter Boosters?
Personally, I find NH boosters to be too powerful as it gives you unlimited stamina, faster movement speed, resistance from damage and deal extra damage all in one. Those buffs you get make the game too easy and takes away some of the challenge. Another reason why I personally don't use these boosters is the rarity. Nowadays, I can't find a BTZ lobby (where Hunter Glands are awarded) and don't have a decent number of glands to craft them. I would be using more of them than creating.

You are more than free to use NH boosters, they can make your run significantly faster. But this is my opinion; I'll use any booster except NH booster.
Normal Difficulty
In this mode, the majority of players will be using this difficulty to get the fastest time, but not to loot. Based on in-game mechanics, everything will stay the same. Enemies will have normal health and deal normal damage. For the Player, your healing is instant/health regeneration is normal, stamina (running and/or combat) is infinite (requires max Power/Agility skill trees). Boosters last normally. I've only mentioned the stuff specifically for the Harran Prison and not the whole game.
From Normal difficulty, you only get 60 seconds (solo) in the clock to loot as much things in the Armoury, and you must make it before 7 minutes to get Guru reward.
Things You Will Need..
Before opening the gates to the Prison, there are some essential weapons/equipment that can be acquired:

Weapons:
= A powerful weapon that can take down Goons, Demolishers and Sgt. Deathrow quick such as the Semi-auto Shotgun (my personal favorite/recommended) upgraded Crossbow (The Following DLC required), Bozak Bow (The Bozak Horde DLC required/completed) or the Double Barrel Shotgun.
= A secondary weapon to kill the soldiers in the prison cell and/or the zombies in the courtyard like an Assault Rifle (semi-auto or full-auto) or the special ammunition with the Bow.
= A melee weapon to kill a horde of zombies, but I don't personally use any melee weapons except the Kuai Dagger (which is possible). The Kuai Dagger (Rise of the Phoenix bounty required) can allow players to gain a temporary speed boost every time you do a parkour move. The run will be WAY more time-efficient. I mean, it can save up to 30 seconds or a minute!

Equipment:
= Grappling Hook is time-efficient when trying to reach high ground or simply using it to move long lengths
= Resistance Booster is key to prevent excess medkit usage, and will be easy to pass by the soldiers without taking huge damage. On Normal difficulty, you will need a minimum of 2 Resistance Boosters.
= Cloak Potion is a temporary camouflage against all zombies except Alpha Volatiles. On ALL difficulties, you will need a minimum of at least 1-2 Cloak Potions.
= Zaid's Flares (the mission 'Firebug' must be completed) rather than standard Flares mainly because they last longer and have a bigger radius.

Note that deaths during the heist will not be tolerated! If so, restart the challenge and try again.

It is advised that you do the Prison Heist if you maxed all skill trees due to the infinite stamina, longer camouflage and effective grappling hook.
...But that doesn't mean having no Legend level makes it impossible. Yes, it is possible to speedrun the Prison without the Kuai Dagger, the grappling hook or even Cloak Potions! More on that in a later time...
The Strategy
I do have a video of me speedrunning the Harran Prison in all difficulties as a summary of this guide. It will be accessible at the end of my guide, or you can watch it here.

Part I - Beginning/Soldiers:

As soon as you open the gate, use the Grappling Hook to quickly traverse your way up the stairs.
TIP: Try and get the crosshairs of the hook on the fencing of the stairs. That so you don't waste time actually climbing the fence (pictures shown). If you instead have the Kuai Dagger, keep sliding with it so you continue to run faster!

By 6 seconds, you should arrive in the courtyard. After that, drink your first Resistance Booster and once more use the Grappling Hook/Kuai Dagger to quickly manoeuvre through the hallway.
NOTE: During this part you don't have to kill the soldiers, they're just there to waste your time. Luckily the Resistance Booster will absorb all the damage taken (aka 1-2 damage points dealt per hit!)
NOTE: If you are using the Kuai Dagger, start your speed boost by sliding around before you open the fence gate. Continue your way, sliding like every 4 seconds. Going too fast through checkpoints may not spawn the next one. To fix it, you would have to travel back to the point, which would waste time. However this is avoidable by sliding through the checkpoint.

By around 35-40 seconds on the timer, you should be just by the door where the soldiers are. And you should still have around 2/3 of your Resistance Booster left. Enter the prison cell, and kill the soldiers as normal.
TIP: Headshots are vital to quick death, and saving time
TIP: Try and prevent the soldiers from moving to the side of the cell where you entered from. They can be really time-consuming and must be exterminated when possible.
TIP: You can actually shoot through the fencing of the walking path!

Killing all soldiers should take around 40 seconds but not more than a minute. Also your Resistance Booster should deplete by now. Grapple hook up to the door and you're ready for the next stage!

Part II - Zombies:

Now, this scene can be tricky somehow unless you know what you're doing. As soon as you open the door, a Bomber is going to chase you, but simply ignore. In rare cases, it may explode upon impact.
Progress your way until you encounter the first set of Virals, this should take around 20-25 seconds to reach. You will need to unlock a Hard lock in order to reach the next area. A Goon will enter and slam the ground. What you need to do is dodge the slam and quickly kill him with the powerful weapon. If you accidentally are stunned by the slam, don't worry because it's not the end of the world! As a fail-safe, drink a Cloak Potion and progress your way normally. If you are more worried about time, then simply drink the Potion.
NOTE: If you do not have the 'Camouflage Attack' skill, you will lose your camouflage effect if you bump into the Goon or any zombie.

After you have killed the Goon, proceed to use the camouflage from it. This would essentially a free Cloak Potion. During the camouflage, it would be the time to rapidly pick the lock (picture shown).

Once unlocked, continue until you reach the next door. If your camouflage depletes before you are able to pick the lock, restart the challenge.

While at the run to the next locked door, ignore the zombies and drink the Cloak Potion so that no Biters, Virals and Toads will attack you (picture shown).

You will notice that the Alpha Volatiles are not affected by camouflage and will try to attack you. To counter this, you will need to throw a flare next to the door while you pick the lock.
TIP: I noticed that throwing the flare directly on the door will have no effect on them. Try to throw it slightly beside it (picture shown).
If you do in fact get pounced by them, restart the challenge.

If you manage to pick the lock, continue your way to the open elevator. Just before the elevator, there will be a part with pipes and electrocuted water. The easiest thing to do is grapple hook all the way to the open ledge (picture shown).

Becareful that a Bomber will chase you, but it's nothing to worry about since you will out run it. Use the grappling hook to easily escalate to the top, and you're ready for the final part!

Part III - The Courtyard:

Just before you drop down, drink the final Resistance Booster. After that, land safely on the trash bags and rush to kill the two Demolishers with the powerful weapon (picture shown) as soon.

If you still have ammo for your powerful weapon, attempt to kill all Virals with it by trying to bunch them up so that the shot is collateral, killing multiple zombies at once.
Once you eliminale the infected, rush to the brick wall where Sgt. Deathrow comes in, and of course kill it with the powerful weapon. After its death, I would finish the remaining Virals on the higher level since the majority of them spawn up.

NOTE: You may seem that you killed all of them, but have a good check that there are still spawning Virals.

Well after all the bloodshed, CONGRAGULATIONS! You time should be between 4-6 minutes. Around this time, you should receive the 'Guru' reward. Head to the Armoury and claim your rewards!!
TIP: After you exit the Prison, your health will fully replenish. You can save a medkit!

Hard/Nightmare Difficulty
You should attempt if you're an experienced player, because things get real crazy. Based on in-game mechanics, enemies will have more health and deal more damage. For the Player, healing is over time/health regeneration is slower, stamina (running and/or combat) will be limited (especially in Nightmare) even if you have maxed all skill trees. Exclusive to Hard mode, your flashlight will slowly dim away. Boosters last a lot shorter than normal. And yes, you will lose some (Hard) or all (Nightmare) of your Survivor points if you die (I'm not held responsible).
- From Hard difficulty, you will get 2 minutes (solo) in the clock to loot as much things in the Armoury.
- From Nightmare difficulty, you will get 3 minutes (solo) in the clock to loot as much things in the Armoury.
Things You Will Need..
This is similar to Normal mode, except:
- You will need the Semi-auto Shotgun

- You should have around 4-6 Resistance Boosters

- And of course... SKILL!!!

However some things stay the same from the number of Cloak Potions to Flares.
Strategy Tips for Hard/Nightmare
- Since Boosters last a lot shorter, I always know that by the time you reach the door to the soldiers your Resistance Booster will run out, Make sure to drink another Booster before opening the door. If your Booster depletes in the middle of combat, take proper cover and attempt to use it without being shot.

- When you encounter your second set of zombies, don't bother killing the Alpha Volatiles. It's impossible!! Instead, ignore and keep your distance from them.

- When on the courtyard, try to kill the Demolishers/Sgt, Deathrow as fast as posslble. And also to keep your distance from them. Without the Resistance Booster, their attacks can instantly kill you!
If you are on NG+ on Hard or Nightmare, you may need the Bozak Bow.

- On Hard mode you should finish the speedrun at around 5-8 minutes, I made it at an earlier time.

- On Nightmare mode you should finish the speedrun at around 7-9 minutes, I made it at an earlier time.

Personally (and probably for the experienced players) I believe Hard mode is the go-to. 120 seconds is a decent time to pick the locks of 4-6 boxes (all if possible), while the rest of the time can be used to gather the general stuff and ammunition. It is a challenge, and it's not as hard as Nightmare mode. At least you won't be raging over losing all your survivor points..

After hours of repetition and attempts, you will be loaded with the amount of Gold-tier melee weapons and King upgrades in your Stash! You can actually gain more medkits than you using them!

Looting Tips
This goes for all difficulties, but keep these tips in mind:

= Just before you enter the Armoury, use the grappling hook/Kuai Dagger to give you an extra boost if you want to rush to pick the locks of the boxes.

= Even before you start the speedrun, have some of your inventory cleaned up and put back to your Player Stash. That so you won't hesitate to get rid of your items during the timer.

= If you wish to do this again, take 10 seconds of the time to gather ammo (and lockpicks) so that you don't have to travel to the Slums and back again.

= Get practicing at picking Hard locks! Not only is it useful for the crates, but the doors as well. From this, it can almost easily take 5-10 seconds to pick the lock!

= Dont. Even. Think about it.
