The Gorge is a new 3 player co-op limited time game mode. The aim is to work together to cook different recipes to appease the Gnaw and earn 3 "Favors" to be able to escape. If the hunger meter runs out you will get turned into an icky Merm! The game mode offers a mixture of farming, gathering, cooking and of course scary motivational roars and earth shakes!

How to get The Gorge Beta

This is copied from the official Don't Klei forums here[forums.kleientertainment.com].

• In Steam, click on Library > Games.
  
• Scroll down to Don't Starve Together.
  
• Right-click and select Properties.
  
• Go to the BETAS tab.
  
• In the dropdown, select the name of the branch you want to play. "gorgebeta - The Gorge Beta branch"
  
• In that same Properties window, go to the Local Files tab and press "Verify Integrity Of Game Cache."
  
• Your game will be updated to The Gorge Beta branch.
  
• Launch and play Don't Starve Together

Once you launch the game you can connect to play with people! If you are unable to find any servers there may have been a hotfix so close your game.

As for the official release... The game is out later today! Rumoured to be at 3.30pm Pacific during a Klei livestream!

This will last from June 14th to July 9th - that's only a month! So grab your collectibles whilst you can.

Hi and welcome to the basics!

To win the game you must last long enough to escape home by earning 3 favors from the Gnaw. You can earn these by cooking certain dishes. There is a seperate section later in the guide explaining what these are.



The three of you will spawn in through a portal.. At the top of the screen you will see a hunger meter that slowly runs down and if it hits the middle of the screen it's game over. Thankfully you have no hunger yourself, all you have to do is cook to appease the Gnaw. Cooking the right food seems to slow down the meter depletion.

At the North is an altar where you can bring any food you create to snackrifice to Gnaw and hopefully buy yourself more time until the game ends.

Mumsy the goat lady will drop a few coins at the start of the game, one person should pick them up and be in charge of the coins. You can spend these at a variety of NPCs around the map.

You will see 4 empty cooking stations around you. You can buy a piece of cooking equipment from Mumsy with 6 of your coins and place it one of the spots.

On the floor will be an axe and a hoe. You can use the axe to cut down firewood for the cooking stations. The hoe is used to till spots for crops in the soil patches.

You can talk to Sammy in the North West to buy seeds.

Roam around the map to collect ingredients and materials to help you cook. So start chucking stuff into the heat and hope you create something tasty for the Gnaw!

If the meter runs out before you manage to accumulate the three favors and escape, you will turn into a Merm and it's game over!

These perks have not yet been implemented in Beta.

The following information is taken from the game files but may be inaccurate or change at release.


It looks like the meta could be Winona, Maxwell and a cooking station speed increase character of the team's choice.

As the farmer it is your job to make sure the fields are bountiful and the money is kept organised! You won't really have to leave the farm very much.

The farmer has several tasks:

• Take the initial coins (generally you leave the rest of the coins in a pile in spawn)
  
• Buy the seeds
  
• Buy cooking stations
  
• Buy other tools/equipment or delegate someone else to
  
• Till the soil with the hoe - try to till 4x7 spots in one field!
  
• Plant seeds
  
• Fertilize any plants needed soon (otherwise let them grow slowly so they don't rot)

Do not fertilize too many plants or they will rot if they aren't picked! Try to plan out as a team what you want to cook for the different rounds.

It's a good idea to start with at least 2 wheat (blue) seeds so you can make flour for a bread item.

As the chef you must appease the Gnaw by cooking all the tasty cravings he has! Make sure not to zone out and let the food burn!

The Chef's tasks are:

• Plan out what meals to cook for each round
  
• Put food in the cooking stations
  
• Keep the fires lit when food is cooking
  
• Pick sticks if you have time
  
• Pick crops if you need them for a recipe
  
• Help till the soil or collect fertilizer if you aren't busy
  
• Deliver food to the altar
  
• Plate or salt food if needed
  
• Take cooked food out quickly so it doesn't burn

Try to communicate with the other players in your team so they can get what you need!

As the Gatherer you will spend much of the game away from the spawn. You will be collecting things all over the map and bringing back vital resources that the other players may not be able to reach.

The gatherer should do the following:

• Take the axe
  
• Keep a stockpile of 20 or so logs near the cooking stations
  
• Gather potatoes ASAP from the south east village
  
• Gather mushrooms
  
• Set up salt
  
• Catch fish
  
• Open safes
  
• Kill animals or set traps

Here are some things I have learned that may be of use!

• Get a salt rack set up ASAP so you can unlock the safes for silver dishes to help you earn favors. See the safe guide for help with that.
  
• Coins take up an inventory space, so let one person carry them or leave them on the floor in the base.
  
• You can pick sticks from twigs to fuel the fires in an emergency, but don't use them all.
  
• You can burn the vegetable patch signs for a first round of fuel.
  
• You can also burn rotten ingredients and manure.
  
• You can buy extra tools from the Goat guy south east of the spawn (but this shouldn't be needed).
  
• Leaving the game before it ends will make you lose any recipes you learned in that game
  
• Don't pick all the Mushrooms or Berries until you need them! They do not grow back and will rot quickly once picked.
  
• The safe in base can be used as a fridge to slow ingredients rotting?

• You can fit 7x4 crop spots into each soil patch.
  
• Make sure to always keep some spots hoed incase someone else needs to plant anything.
  
• Crops will rot if you leave them in the ground too long!
  
• Wheat and flour doesn't rot so keep it as your main crop as it used commonly.
  
• Don't waste money on too many seeds at a time otherwise all the crops will rot from not being used.
  
• You seem to get 2-4 seeds from seed packs.
  
• Fertilizer (Manure or Bucket o' Poop) makes crops instantly grow a stage.

• Food will turn into goo or just cooked ingredientsif it is a failed recipe.
  
• Cooking stations will change animation when the food is ready. Steam will come out the top.
  
• The hotter the fire, the faster things cook (or burn).
  
• Cooked food will burn if left in the cooking station for too long.
  
• The category the Gnaw wants food from changes every time you snackrifice something, even if it wasn't the food he was craving.
  
• You can salt cooked food (not sure if it gives extra money?).

• Leave the fishing rod by the pond so anyone can use it.
  
• You don't need more than 100 logs per game so don't just focus on logging.
  
• Don't forget to keep an eye on tree saps as the trees will become diseased if not harvested quickly.
  
• Don't forget to harvest your salt regularly.

The spawn is where you start the game. Here you will find Mumsy who sells cooking equipment and Sammy who sells seeds. There is farmland for seeds to be planted and also beefalo with manure to fertilize. There are growing berries and twigs but these do not respawn once picked so be careful with them. At the top is the altar where you snackrifice food.


The forest is where you will chop down wood to fuel all of your cooking stations. Mushrooms can also be found between the trees but these do not grow back and will rot fast after picking so only pick them when you need them!


The salt plains have Billy wondering around. He will sell traps and a fishing rod. You can use the rod in the salt pools to catch Salmon. There is a mealstone for grinding flour/spice/salt. You can buy a salt rack from Billy and place it in the pools to get salt over time. There are three safes around the area which can be gained from trading ground up salt for a key with the Elder in the village.


The village has 4 free potatoes at the top at the beginnning of the game, these will rot if not picked. The Elder sells buckets of poop and extra tools for wood. He will also swap salt for a safe key.


The park opens with a key you can buy from Sammy for 1 sapphire medallion, you can get this by using a dessert for the round 4 dessert round. Inside are ferns which can be used to cook, spice spot plants which can be ground at the mealstone for spice. There are also sugarwood trees which can be tapped for sap. The Park merm will sell extra seeds and more advanced cooking equipment.

To cook a recipe you must place 3-4 compatible ingredients into one of the cooking stations. Keep the fire hot and soon you will either have some useless goop (or equally useless cooked ingredients?) if the recipe failed, or you will get a completed item and unlock the relevant recipe. Food will burn if you leave it in too long!

Some combinations will only working in certain equipment, so try them everywhere you can!

You can put foods on a silver plate or bowl for extra rewards. You can also add salt to food to reduce the spoilage level.

Klei confirmed on livestream that the only cooked dish that can be used to create other recipes is Syrup.

Food that spoils into the yellow stage will be worth a reduced reward.

The know categories for craving are Snack, Soup, Veggie (Vegetable), Dessert, FIsh, Bread, Meat, Cheese and Pasta.

Below are the discovered recipes so far, feel free to contribute to help complete the list! There are 70 in total. You will only unlock Satisfaction Craving categories in your recipe book if you correctly feed the Gnaw the recipe during that craving.

Recipes with multiple Cravings listed will satisfy any one of those. There are no multiple category cravings. I.E The Gnaw will never want Veggie AND Cheese at the same time, only one of them.

You can tell when the pot is done as the lid starts to hop around.

You need to accumulate 3 favor tokens to win the game. Several recipes will give favor, some of them only if you present them on a silver dish.

I have removed this as a seperate section as there is no point having double recipes.

Recipes from number 46-69 should all give Favor if silver plated and 66-69 will give a Favor without a plate too.

The only remaining numbers undiscovered are 28, 54 and 57.


All have been discovered except for what looks like cookies?

There are three "safes" on the salt plains. Two in the South and one North. These chests of loot require a key to open. It is suggested to start working towards these as soon as you can, by round 5 at the latest so you have some silver. To get a key you must:

1. Buy a salt rack from Billy for 8c
   
2. Place the salt rack on one of the salt ponds
   
3. Wait a few mins for salt to form and harvest the crystal.
   
4. Crush the crystal at the mealstone into 3 salt.
   
5. Take the 3 salt to the Elder in the South East forest and trade it for a key.
   
6. Use the key to open a safe of your choice.

The order that the Gnaw's cravings come is not always fixed but you will always get one of several possibilities.

Round 1 - Always Snack
Round 2 - Vegetable (yay!) or Bread (booo..)
Round 3 - Meat or Fish or Soup
Round 4 - Always Dessert and always rewards a Sapphire Medallion
Round 5 - Vegetable or Snack or Soup
Round 6 - Meat or Fish or Bread
Round 7 - Always Pasta
Round 8 - Cheese or Dessert
Round 9 - Soup or Cheese
Round 10 -
Round 11 -
Round 12 -
Round 13 -
Round 14 -
Round 15 -

The rounds are infinite until you run out of time.

Veggie - Cookpot - Potato Soup = 3 potato in a cookpot = 8c THEN BUY SALT RACK

Bread - BUY OVEN - Bread = 3 flour in oven = 5c Don't buy salt rack yet!

Meat - BUY TRAP - [If Have Oven] Meat Pie = 1 Meat Scrap + 1 Flour + 1 Veg = 12c
Otherwise [Cookpot] Meatballs = 1 Meat scrap + 2 Vegetables = 8c

Fish - BUY ROD - [If Have Oven] Fish Pie = 1 Fish + 1 Flour+ 1 Veg = 10c
Otherwise [Cookpot] Fish Stew = 1 Fish and (2 Fish or 2 Vegetables) = 8c

Soup - Stone Soup = Stone + 2 Vegetables = 10c


Dessert - Oven - Carrot Cake = 1 Carrot, 2 Flour = 1 Sapphire, 6c


Veggie/Snack/Soup- Tomato Soup IN SILVER BOWL IF POSSIBLE = 3 Tomatoes = 1 Red Mark + 6c


Fish - Large Cookpot - Poached Fish = Spice, Foliage, Salmon, Tomato = 2 Sapphire + 8c
OR
Meat - Large Cookpot - Meat Stew = 2 Meat Scraps + 2 Veggie/Spice = 2 Sapphire + 6c
OR
Bread - If silver plate, buy grill - Garlic Bread = Flour + 2 Garlic on silver plate = 1 Red Mark. Otherwise do it without the plate.


Pasta IF RED MARK + Silver Plate - Large Cookpot - Creamy Fettucine - 2 x Milk, 1 x Flour, 1 x Garlic = 1 Favor, 1 Red Mark 3 Coins.
Otherwise
Large Cookpot - Spaghetti and Meatballs = Flour + Tomato + Meat + Onion/Garlic/Mushroom/Spice
OR Large Oven - Lasagna = Flour + Tomato + Meat + Mushroom/Garlic
Both = 1 Red Mark, 1 Sapphire, 7 Coins


Cheese - Oven - Manicotti on SILVER PLATE = Milk, Garlic, Flour, Tomato = 1 Favor!
