Lol, I had something similar happen when playing the Demo. I didn't know I had to activate the jetpack. By the time I figured that out he floated too far away from the capsule. He's still up there orbiting around Kerbin. I've been trying to get a 2nd empty capsule(attached the 2nd capsule to the top of the first) up to rescue him with out much success (he's on a odd inclination orbit). I've gotten to about 1km a few times but couldn't get closer.

I was also hoping to maybe use my rescue ship to get him back to his original ship but some how I accidently ended the ship mission. Oh well. :)

if you press R you'l activate your jet pack.
