Long story short: Use a controller.

After ~2 hours of Googling and trying all sorts of tricks for the mouse I finally plugged in my controller and got the Admiral in one cast. So forget all those tricks out there for getting the mouse to work.

How? The mouse doesn't seem to reset the rod to a neutral position when you stop reeling. This problem only seems to be an issue with this difficulty of a fish. Seriously, plug in a controller and see how the rod resets to neutral when you stop reeling. It's so easy compared to mouse.

With mouse wasd its pain, but even with ps4 ctlr impossible... real shit.

literally, struggling for a half hour with mouse and keyboard. plugged in the controller, got em in under a minute. it was so easy, i thought i hooked the wrong fish. Thank you

Thanks for the tip pal, worked fine for me with the pad. Finally got that f******* fish :)

instructions unclear, admiral caught me

I found a glitch where I can catch any fish instantly by flicking the mouse towards the character as soon as the fish is hooked. I'm not joking when I say that it took me less then a second to catch the Admiral,

Tried for half an hour to catch the fish with a mouse, then as suggested I picked up my control pad. It's reduculous how easy it was to catch.
As usual Ubisoft is lazy with the PC port.

The previous cliff trick did not work for me, the best way I found to do it is to hook him and then slowly retreat into the shallow water, dragging him with you, eventually he will be in the shallow end and you can run right up to him. Hope this helps.
