Hotel Dollars
There are two currencies in My Sunny Resort: Hotel Dollars and Shells.

Hotel Dollars

Hotel Dollars are the standard in-game currency. They can be used to buy most things in the game, and can be acquired in a number of ways:

• Checking out guests after they have exhausted their vacation budget
• Guests visiting attractions and amenities
• Selling products to guests
• Leveling up
• Completing Story Quests
• Earning achievements
• Money cards from suitcases
• Selling items you no longer need back to the shop
Shells
Shells

Shells are the game's premium currency.

They are not necessary to advance in the game, however, they will speed up a lot of things and enable you to buy some unique decorations and buildings, and let your hire resort helpers to help you out in your resort. Shells can be purchased for real-life money at the in-game Bank, and can rarely be found as rewards in the game or from suitcases.
The Bank
The Bank can be accessed through the dollar-sign button on the menu bar.

In the Bank, you can exchange Shells for Hotel Dollars (but not the other way around!)
or click on the "Shell Shop" Button to be taken to the upjers payment page, where you can purchase Shells for real-life money.

Regarding shells: That's not quite true, is it? You *do* need shells to complete certain quests, like the one at Level 17, to build a cocktail bar. That was the first moment where I thought, "Do I want to keep playing with this?"
