INTRODUCTION

There are two main types of drifting in Carx...
  • Grassroots - 100 grip tires, low to mid horsepower
  • Grip - 110 and 120 grip tires, full horsepower
Most new players goto grip first for a few reasons... they dont know what normal drifting is because they are new and only see formula drift and thats what they think is drifting. Long term drift fans choose grassroots because of the lower speed, closer tandems, more style, concentration, and higher difficulty. If you choose grip, do not drive with grassroots drivers unless you can set your car up to drive slow, otherwise group up with other grip drivers.

If you are being kicked or banned and do not understand why, the above and lower information are probably the reasons why, learn the sport, you dont use a football to play baseball.
EXAMPLE TANDEM TRAIN
ITS NOT A RACE, GO SLOW SO EVERYONE CAN STAY TOGETHER
Here's an example of a proper Tandem Train. This is your goal
    TANDEM TRAIN RULES
    • It is not a Race. In a tandem or “train”, stay behind the car in front of you unless the driver is having serious trouble.

    • It is not a Race.If you do not know the person in front of you, it is your responsibility to not wreck the driver. If you want to learn to tandem, this is how you do it. Stay with the person and slowly mimic their movements and getting closer and closer.
TIP 1: Determine if the driver E-Brakes or Feint Drifts (Scandinavian Flick[en.wikipedia.org]) every turn. This will help you decide to do the same entry.
TIP 2: Set brake pressure to around 1900-2400 LBS and Brake Balance/Bias to 75% front. This will allow you to accelerate and brake at the same time. It will slow your car down while keeping a drift. It will(should) also pull the front wheels in.

    • It is not a Race.If you wreck, immediately pull to the side and wait for others to pass. The drivers behind you will try to predict where you car is going to go, so don't do anything random. Stay to the side and don't move. This will also force you to learn to drive better, it’s called discipline.

    • If there is substantial wreck near the front, usually everyone slows down and regroups. try to do so. If you are leading it is your job to slow down to let everyone catch up.

    • It is not a Race.If you have a slower car than the group, stay toward the back. You will only cause problems later in the run. If you are consistent enough but are slow for some reason, start increasing rear tire adhesion in 4-5% increments. I’ve seen class 1 cars tandem with class 5 cars, so it’s all in the tune.

    • If you aren’t very good, #4 also applies to you, stay toward the rear of the group. Being apart of the tandem is important, but causing a wreck or pile up everytime will earn you a kick and bad reputation. Keep working hard, ask for help, join discord, you will get better.
ITS A GOOD IDEA TO BIND RESET CAR BUTTON TO YOUR CONTROLLER
    ONCOMING TRAFFIC RULES
    1. If you are alone and see another driver coming you have two options.

Safest Route: Stop sliding, drive as far to the side of the road as possible.

Respectable Option: Once you are comfortable with the drift lines on a track, predict where the driver will be going and drift on the opposite side of the road.

TIP: If you can’t see the driver, 90% of the time he will take the outside line.

    2. If you are in a Tandem Lobby and the train is coming, just pull over and stop. If you know the drift line, pull to opposite side they will be traveling.

    3. When things don’t go right, just apologize. It’s only going to help your relationship with everyone.
Saying nothing comes off as rude.
    CAMERA SETUP
This is by far the best thing you could do.

By Default Dynamic Camera is ON. We need to turn it off, Then the camera points ONLY in the direction you are drifting but the car rotates on the screen, giving you a superior viewing angle on where your car is going to go. While your doing this you might want to raise you Field of View from 60 to 70.. it helps just a little extra.
    • TL:DR
    • Turn Dynamic Camera OFF: Settings > Game > dynamic camera OFF
    • Keep Dynamic Camera (cockpit) ON, incar camera view turns your head, very awesome.
    • Field Of View: Settings > Graphics > Vertical Field Of View > 60-75
    • Now, Find the behind car camera that doesnt move, but the car spins, theres 3 so be careul.

Your camera should act like this video
CLICK HERE IF THE VIDEO LINK FAILS TO LOAD
Yes that's RTX + Other filters and Special FX Sound Software that does what reshade does but to sound.
    CONTROLLER SETUP
The following will be the best possible controller settings. If your on a keyboard, gamestop sells controllers for 15 USD
    • You will be able to Hold The Clutch and Brake with the same finger (both top left bumpers)
    • You will be able to hold the Hold The E-Brake and Change gears with the same finger.
Do yourself a favor and set the following controller binds, take an hour to learn the muscle memory. This is pretty much how every Legendary Drifter has their controls.
    DRIVING LINE
Drifting truly is an art-form at its roots. For years drivers focused on style and rhythm not speed and angle. In japan out in the mountains it has always been about fluidity. Those gentlemen would flow through the curves of the mountain as one single perfect brush stroke. The key is to follow the racing line, but while drifting. Even Formula Drift has Inner and Outer Zones. This is why I write "its not a race" everywhere.... you cant tandem when one person is twice as fast as everyone else. Once you master this you can break that mold and develop your own style.

Here's roughly the line that should be taken for each corner type. Entering long turns with a big E-Brake bomb are a huge bonus. Just rip that E-Brake and hold it as long as you can, bring up the rev's and dump the clutch at the last second and the car grips and rips.
THE ACTUAL DRIFT BIBLE BY THE DRIFT KING
Any serious drift enthusiast should atleast watch this once... then go watch Initial D after or something... its the same guy. Fun fact nobody really knows about Initial D, his dads the one that built and tuned the car over the years delivering tofu before he could drive, hes actually the Original Drift King... somehow I'm the only person that caught that.

    BRAKING IN TANDEMS
Theres a trick thats carried over from many drift games. In order to stay close to the car infront of you, you slightly hold the Brakes and the Accelerator at the same time. Essentially a Crab Walk. You car drifts but to the side very slowly. To tandem you need to learn how to do this. Every car is different so you have to find the correct. This is also shown in the video example above.

Brake Torque (pressure): Between 1800 to 2400 N/m

Front Brake BIas (brake balance): Between 69% to 78% (its usually 75)

I have every single car in the game tuned, they are all between these ranges.
    ENGINE REV LIMITER
Bouncing off the rev limiter like a machinegun is bad for everyone. its hurting your drifting because you arent getting any traction especially with 100% grip tires. you car will drive and sound 100 times better if you slowly turn down the POWER. find a nice long 3rd gear turn to drift, slowly turn down engine tune untill its hold high rpm without bouncing off the rev limiter. the car will sound and perform better everytime. infact maybe do it to 4th gear. most of my cars do not exceed 680-740hp. max torque is usually set to half way, just make a smooth arch on the graph with no dip between torque and HP(blue and green lines)
    TIRES
Tires are the MOST controversial part of Carx.

120% Grip Tires are fround upon unless you need it because of some crazy fitment, otherwise its too fast, you wont be able to tandem, and everyone will be pissed because you arent tandeming smoothly. Dont use it

110% Grip Tires are also found upon but gets used when someone has extreme camber and low profile sidewall tires and you just need a little grip and 100% isnt working. Dont use this either for the above reason

100% Grip Tires are basically recommended / required if your going to tandem with everyone. YOU HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO TUNE. you can get grip with 100% so figure it out and youll be happy you did.
    heres some tips:
    • anything over 4 degrees of camber you start to lose grip
    • low tire pressure adds grip, usually less than 100 psi. you can control alot of how your car acts with tire pressure so learn it.
    • higher tire profile adds more grip, running a 20 sidewall is nice looking but running 35 has alot more grip.
    • too much caster looks cool but loses front wheel traction, none of my cars have more than 3 degrees of caster
    • soft springs adds more grip especially the rear.
    • if you run your car slammed to the ground check how much suspension travel it has left, its important to have atleast a few inches. you cant have it lowered all the way and expect the suspension to do its job. at that point on the bounciness of the tires is your suspension now. you can fix that by using a large rim size and tire sidewall size and raising the springs.
    • most of my tunes use 0 for anti-sway bars and less than 60N/m springs.
    • front and rear toe can actually make your car drift better, pay attention to how fast your drifts are and does the car gain or lose speed in a drift. try toe all the way to one side, test, then try it all the way to the other side. which way does the car maintain or gain speed and which way does it lose speed.
    • too much power is bad. if you are hitting the rev limited nonstop it sucks. low your HP and engine tune so 3rd and 4th gear full throttle doesnt constantly hit rev limiter. it helps EVERYTHING, this is one of the best things ive done for every tune of mine.
    SMOKE USAGE
Don't use eye-bleeding acid green smoke or black, all you are doing is blinding people. Most drivers like the immersion of using smoke, only to be stuck behind some fully tinted and fully colored smoked car. Set your brightness to 100% and keep the Saturation between the ranges below, from the T to just past the N. You can still have your color, just make it look like real colored smoke tires are, faint. Careful with certain colors, darker colors may need less saturation than lighter ones. Orange and Red are difficult to adjust also. The suggested saturation will produce the example below.

    RANDOM PRO LIVERY DESIGNER TIPS
If you didnt know already, I make some very high quality and detailed liveries with tons of ideas that have never been done before, i share because i want other people to enjoy it as well. You can check them under screenshots on my profile.
    or here https://www.mikemartin.co/multimedia/vinyl_liveries
Here's some long term experience advice...

Never use 100pct white or black, find the fine line between almost white and almost black especially with a white car and chrome wheels, move the slider slowly, observe what it actually looks like

Same goes for anything color try less saturation, less brightness, it really adds depth

Wheel and Tire fitment is actually hard to do, it took me a couple years to really see it and replicate it....
    1. ignore rim sizes in carx they are wrong, do it visually.
    2. when doing fitment or copying fitment from an instagram picture(great place) stare at the peak / top of the rim / tire area and really see the spacing, gaps, and shapes in that area, replicate on your car.
