With the thing about paying a worker to harvest and collecting as he harvests - you could just dismiss the worker while you take it, but hey, your method works too. There are no extra fees to initiate or dismiss a worker, are there? I suppose taking grain to the silos first is a good habit to get into for later in the game anyway...
u could just use this mod, u can programe routes and fieldwork. this does not charge u for workers.
