Download GFWL
(optional step)

1- If you already have it installed, please uninstall GFWL and run a CCleaner + clean registry.

2- Restart your PC.

(optional step)

3- Download GFWL on this link only ! (do not install the one you can download on microsoft driver support webpage)

Game For Windows Live[community.pcgamingwiki.com] <= install this one ! It's the one microsoft try to install but is outdated and cannot connect to the internet.

4- After installing just click "close" don't launch GFWL then sign in or create a GFWL account with your Hotmail/Outlook address here:

USE MICROSOFT EDGE EXPLORER ==> https://account.live.com/proofs/AppPassword?mkt=en-us

YOU NEED TO BE SIGNED IN TO MICROSOFT/XBOX ON YOUR COMPUTER FOR GFWL TO BE ABLE TO CONNECT ! YOU CANNOT USE A LOCAL PC ACCOUNT !

I GET TIRED OF PEOPLE TELLING ME IT'S NOT WORKING AND REALIZING THEY'RE NOT SIGNED INTO THEIR WINDOWS WITH THE SAME MICROSOFT EMAIL THEY ATTEMPT TO LAUNCH THE GAME WITH ! ! !
If your pc start directly without asking you for a password or a pin code to get to your desktop then you're doing it wrong, you're not connected with your account, since 2020 it is impossible to start a windows computer with a valid windows account without entering a password !!!

I will not provide help for any issues regarding cracked version of Windows 10/11

5- Launch Lost Planet 2.

6- When you start the game it will ask you to login with your Xlive account and for the serial code that steam supply you with, enter it.

IT CAN TAKE UP TO 5 MINUTES FOR GFWL TO LOG YOU IN ! IT'S NOT STUCK ! just GFWL working at his own pace. . .

Make sure you have the right password, that it's up to date and have verified it IMPORTANT ! If you haven't used your Hotmail/outlook account in a while you have to sign-in to the Microsoft web page first or you will be stuck in a "Connecting" loop forever !
ALSO your password CANNOT be longer than 15 characters or it will not login

7- It will ask you to Update GFWL, accept, close Lost Planet 2 and start the update process

8- Launch Lost Planet 2, now it will ask you to update the client for Lost Planet 2 (I know. . . bear with me) accept, close Lost Planet 2 and let GFWL update.

9- Launch Lost Planet 2 and finally you should be all set to play !

10- ENJOY !

(optional step)

11- Run a CCleaner to delete the old GFWL Registry

12- Restart your PC.

(optional step)

Firewall Exception
For some user you might be unable to connect online until you've added Lost Planet 2 and Game for Windows Live to pass throught your firewall !

(WINDOWS 10) - Go to your Settings icon on the windows menu, in the search bar type "firewall" and select windows defender firewall. There manualy add 'GFWLive.exe', 'GFWLClient.exe' and "LP2DX9.exe", "LP2DX11.exe"

- You can find them here :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE\Client

and

YOUR DISK PATH:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lost Planet 2
Common Issues

CPU with 6 CORES +

The game crash if you have a 6 Core and up CPU

NEW AND EASY FIX :

Just put this .dll file into the Lost Planet 2 directory:
(Your drive letter:\Steam\steamapps\common\Lost Planet 2)

(Chrome or Edge will flag the download as armful as it's a .dll file, no worries, the file is safe)

🔗 Download link to the .dll File[community.pcgamingwiki.com]

The game does not support 6 Core and up CPU's, so if you have an intel i7 or AMD Ryzen with 6 Logic cores or more.

GFWL error code 0x8007065b

If Windows Live gets an error saying it can retrieve your profile, go to the Lost Planet 2 folder (right click on the game in your steam library, manage, open game folder)

In the root folder where the launcher.exe, LP2DX11.exe, LP2DX9.exe, etc... are, do the following:

Right click (on every file in that folder, not only the .exe), go to properties and under the security tab, make sure all USERS, ADMINISTRATORS, SYSTEM, ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and ALL RESTRICTED APPLICATION PACKAGES have FULL CONTROL enable !

That should fix GFWL not being able to read and access those files.

Thanks to Phear for this fix.

Your modem or windows is blocking GFWL

(Check that your Network is set to Private and not Public)
  1. Use Windows shortcut keys Win + R to launch Run.
  2. Type services.msc into the dialog box and select with OK.
  3. In Services (local) search for UPNP Device Host, right-click and select Properties.
  4. If Status is Started, please click Stop. Set Startup type to disabled.
  5. Save with Apply and OK.
  6. Close all windows and reboot your computer.

IF UPnP WAS ALREADY DISABLE, ENABLE IT !

If your Modem has UPnP build in, disable it via config at your modem's IP address.
Extra Steps
After you installed GFWL go to this folder :

C:\Windows\SysWOW64

In the search box in the top right type 'xlive' then search, a few files are going to show up, select them all and right click them, then "copy" (DO NOT USE "CUT")

Go to :

C:\Windows\System32

Paste the files there, then restart your computer.

This should help in case you Windows version install the GFWL files as if it was a 64Bit program.
Crashing Issues
- If your game keeps on crashing a lot when playing DX11 Mode just install the drivers that come pack with the game ! you can find them in :

Originally posted by author:
YOUR DISK PATH:\Steam\steamapps\common\Lost Planet 2\directx_Jun2010\DXSETUP.exe

- The game run way more stable on NVidia cards !

- If you still have problems with the game crashing just run the DX9 version for the section that cause troubles then switch back to DX11 ! Believe me there is almost NO difference at all except for water movement and more polygons on the bosses (huge Akryd)

Image comparison DX9 (FIRST) vs DX11 (SECOND)

Water have more "waves" and react more when you move into it and shoot in it !

The Legs and horns have more polygons details !

The skin and horns have more polygons details !

Thanks in part to tessellation, the boss looks much more defined in DirectX 11 mode, especially with regards to his legs and multitude of horns. This is one of those things, though, that I am not sure many people would even notice unless there were two screenshots side-by-side, like here.
ENJOY THE GAME !
PLAY HARD ! There is a lot to unlock !

Managed to find a way to fix it, you'll need to make an Offline Account.

Quite a few short videos on how to do it, but the main thing is that you want to make sure you have a Microsoft account already signed into on the PC.

Anyways, make the Offline Account, then once loaded into the game you'll need to bring up the GFWL Menu (Idk how to do that but when using a Controller I just pressed Xbox Button.

Once brought up, select the option to connect to Xbox Live, then it will run you through the same thing again, however this time it should bring up a Windows Explorer Webpage.

All you need to do is log into your Microsoft Account in this webpage and then once that's done, return to the game.

Attempt to log in again, the game should say that GFWL needs and Update and then just close the game down, find the newly opened WIndow for GFWL and Update.

Viola! All done and ready to play!

Sorry if this isn't that informative, doing my best while going off of memory.

Found the issue, just had to RTFM, make sure you're logged in onto your account on the web browser as mentioned in the instructions.

A friend of mine is having the same issue as The Narrator, has any solution been found on it?

I've seemingly got this working with Window 11 -- the GFWL overlay appears and I can sign into a a profile. However, I cannot get the GFWL overlay to appear for it on Windows 10, and even if I straight copy the install game over to the other PC... Almost as if GFWL simply is not present on the Win10 machine, despite be having installed it in the same manner for Win11, the programs being present on the PC. Is this a known Win10 issue?... Or are there some step/s one can follow in order to trouble-shoot this anomaly?

@LittleTale Ran into a small problem, for some reason the GFWL keeps on saying that there's a Network Connectivity Error and not downloading my profile.

If I refuse to use a profile and attempt to play the game without it then it runs perfectly fine, however if I try to get my profile working it keeps looping saying that the Network encountered an error.

I am using the right account, the password is correct, and it's after putting in the correct Steam Key, it goes to download for literally 1 second then says there was a network error.

Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated!

@Space Cat Thats why I wrote in the guide (Chrome or Edge will flag the download as armful as it's a .dll file, no worries, the file is safe) !!
a .DLL file will ALWAYS be flaged as potentially dangerous, it contains small programs and instructions that help larger program handling non core functions.
Space Cat 10 Mar @ 12:19am
The dinput8.dll file has been flagged as a virus
