Introduction
Axton, the Commando one of the versitile classes in the game. Axton is mainly an offtank with some damage potential. The reason for him being an offtank is for his action skill, Sabre Turret, which deals damage and can also take damage. This guide will discuss some general Axton builds that are decent in both solo and co-op play.

Sabre Turret
A great action skill that mixes both offense and defence with a turret. What is great about the Sabre Turret is that it deals damage and can distract and take damage from enemies, allowing Axton to freely shoot enemies while they are focusing the turrets.

Double Up Build
Axton - The Vanguard

This build focuses on a mix of turret and gun damage and is good for both solo and co-op play, utilizing the turret for damage and slag which increases Axton's overall damage.

Playstyle
With this build, Sabre Turret damage and and health are increased and gives turret slag bullets, which can slag enemies and increase damage done with guns. This gives the Sabre Turret, the ability to mark targets with slag to visually mark enemies and also increase damage against them. This allows for increased damage in solo play and increased damage and teamwork in co-op play.

Nuke Build
Axton - The Nuclear Commando

This build focuses on gun and grenade damage and is good for both solo and co-op play. This build utilizes the Sabre Turret by using it mostly as a distraction and to deal damage.

Playstyle
With this build, the Sabre Turret is used to initiate fights with its Longbow and Nuke function and is able to teleport into groups of enemies and deal damage within a radius. This will get enemies distracted on the turret. This will allow the player to freely shoot enemies and the turret to do moderate damage to groups of enemies.

Gemini Build
Axton - The Engineer

This build mainly focuses on turret damage with the use of Gemini and rockets and can be used in both solo and multiplayer effectively.

Playstyle
This build is great for teamplay as well as solo, as the Sabre Turret is able to dish out a decent amount of damage and a reduced cooldown rate. Using this build, use Mag-Lock to give the turret a better vantage point, whether sticking the turret to walls or ceilings. However, be warned, Mag-Lock cannot stick to some surfaces and may fall through them. Another advantage to this build is that if one turret is destroyed or one turret is unreachable, it is posible to pick up the other one, activating the reduced cooldown.

Hyperius the Invincible
This build is effective against Hyperius the invincible. When Hyperius the Invincible uses his stomp AoE attack, deploying the Sabre Turret and allowing for the Phalanx shield to take the blast, and deploying a second turret after his first AoE attack and letting the second turret's shield to take the second blast, effectively cancels Hyperius's AoE attack.

Healthy- More health increase survivability

Phalanx Shield- Shield for your turret, not as effective as I'd hope it would be
Quick Charge(3)- Regenerates your shield on kill
Resourceful- Reduces action skill cooldown
Mag-Lock- Allows you to stick your turrets to almost anything
Gemini- Doubles your turret damage using a second turret

Items
Standard Item/Bee Layout
Standard Item/Bee Shield Layout
The standard item layout consists of specific roles for specific types of weapons.

Weapon Layout
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Main Weapon
  • Elemental Weapon/Secondary Weapon
  • Healing Weapon
Rocker Launchers are mainly used for Second Winds. Weapons can cover a single role, however many weapons are able to cover two roles. For example, Moxxi weapons usually cover the healing weapon role, but can also cover an elemental role. However it is not suggested to have a rocket launcher fill the rocket launcher role and also the elemental role.

Shields
Shields are very standard and don't have too much deviation. Any shields used should be level and special affect(if it does have any special effects) appropriate(for example don't use the Cradle in solo play).

Legendary Bee
The Bee is an extremely powerful late game shield; ampifing damage when at full shields and having a 0 ampify drain, allows users to have ampified damage constantly, as long as their shields are full. This turns the user into essentially a glass cannon and should be used with caution, as it is easy to become damaged and downed because of the low shield capacity. The Bee is dropped from the Hunter Hellquist found in Arid Nexus - Boneyard.

Mod
Class mods suggested for Axton:
  • Legendary Soldier
  • Pointman
  • Engineer
The Legendary Soldier Mod is a great all around mod for Axton that boosts gun damage, lowers cooldown rate and increases all basic skills with +6.
The Pointman Mod increases health and add health regen.
The Engineer Mod decreases the cooldown rate for the Sabre Turret.

Grenades
Having good grenades can improve gameplay alot. Some good types of grenades are:
  • Transfusion
  • Singularity
  • MIRV

Relics
Having relics that are appropriate for your playstyle is important. Some good types are:
  • Cooldown
  • Manufacture/Damage
  • Health
  • Shield Capacity

Regarding your nuke build, I have the Fireball and Fire Storm grenade mods from TTAODK, which let me regen grenades. Would it be okay to move the 3 points from Grenadier to some combo of Ready, Able, and/or Preparation?
