Editing the Camera's Position
Having the camera zoomed in WAY too much (low field of view),
is in my honest opinion one of the game's greatest faults.

Which was probably done to cover up the low draw distance (that's why there's graphical pop-in),
they had planned to fix the camera & add a few options to it, but the developers went bankrupt.

However, do not worry nor fret! There is a method with which you can "fix" the camera.
And you could "upgrade" Amalur's graphics while you're at it, after all.. it makes it look better!

Default Camera:

Modded Camera:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1
Download Widescreen Fixer (click on "WidescreenFixer-r737.7z" below Assets):
https://github.com/dlrudie/WidescreenFixer/releases/tag/Original

Step 2
Place it anywhere you like & unzip the .RAR file using WinRAR or any other such application.

Step 3
Start the program (in the unzipped folder), select Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning from the list.

Step 4
Select the icon (cogwheel) next to the game & use the settings shown in the image:

Step 5
Press the buttons "Save Settings" & then "Close Window".
(But keep the application running, otherwise it won't work!)

Step 6
Launch the game & load your save.

Step 7
Keep holding W to move forward, then press * (multiply/asterisk).
(If the button does not work, go to the Widescreen Fixer settings & look at the 'Hotkey',
click at "Multiply", then choose any button that you want to activate the application with)

Issues & Problems
- Using these settings causes the character in the menu screen to be zoomed in a bit as well,
however it's not too much of a problem - it only hides the top of the head somewhat.

- The camera resetting/zooming in too much: Whilst walking forward press the * button again,
and the camera should have switched to the settings that you chose in the program itself.
(You may have to press the button a few times whilst walking to make it go to the right position)

EDITING THE CAMERA POSITION YOURSELF
Editing the position yourself is a bit tricky, as you'd need to use my settings & work from there,
since this application is a bit buggy & the "Field-of-View" slider does NOT work as it should.

Editing the first resolution number, 8850, determines how close the camera/FOV is.
So if I would put in 8000, it would zoom OUT, if I would put in 9500, it would zoom IN.
(You can edit the values while the game is running & applying the new settings by pressing *)

This is how you edit the "Field-of-View" yourself (camera distance/field of view).
Enhancing the Graphics
If you'd like to enhance how the game looks, I can assist you with that too!

There are some comparison screenshots at the bottom of this section.
(Comparing the mod in-game does it way more justice, rather than just looking at the images)

In my opinion, my (SweetFX) mod doesn't do anything too weird to upset the graphical balance,
but it simply enhances the colours & makes things look a bit more sharp/mystic/adult than usual.

It also reduces the cartoon-ish undertone that the game tends to have in most locations.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1
Download my SweetFX mod.
(Press the downwards pointing arrow button at the top right to start the download)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Ef7ScwQfVjkRv371VklTi7Gumrgd-tIR

Step 2
Place it anywhere you like & unzip the .RAR file using WinRAR or any other such application.

Step 3
Go into the folder that was unzipped, in which you should see 3 files & 1 folder - copy/cut it all.

Step 4
Place the copied/cut files into the game's installation directory, which for me is:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\KOAReckoning

And you're done! The SweetFX graphical mod is now installed & ready to be used!

Comparisons (the top image uses default graphics, the image below it uses the graphics mod. It's better to compare the images in their full 1920x1080 resolution size via your internet browser):

:winter2019happybulb:

i had no idea that was a game issue. i just assumed the way the program was 'stretching' the screen was effecting something. good to know. i maybe didnt encounter it before because i normally try keep an empty journal as best i can lol. i can't hold it against the company too much. they shot for the stars and made a greta game. just sucked at business lol. this game is from a time that games were released finished and with MINIMAL bugs (at least compared to the nightmare of current day games) and ive been waiting for a company to bring amalur back. can't wait for the re-master and i hope it leads to a sequel!

Thanks, but that is an issue with the game however. You must not have TOO many quests active/open as this will bug out the journal (I am not sure if those quests that can't be completed count) and could even seriously break certain quests. This program merely aggravates the journal readability issue (under certain conditions). I'm not sure why this is barely mentioned anywhere but it is a pretty serious bug that SHOULD have been fixed (but the company went bankrupt shortly after the game released).

No problem & have fun with the remaster!

i didn't think you'd reply so quick! like i said the issue seems related to having a lot of quests. and can be countered by closing off the tasks or main quests tabs whilst working on a side quest for eg. i was really worried until i found it. sad i know. but im doing a run through of the game before the re-master and im skipping a lot of dialogue and then trying to stay coherent using the journal lol. thanks for the quick reply. and nice guide (y)

I'm not quite sure why it would cut off/mess with the journal that much (at least, why it wouldn't be fixed via the method I described/you tried) but try messing with the resolution numbers (since the program may have different effects on other PCs). Or use two instances of the program separately with one having close to default settings and run this one when you need to use the journal, albeit that would be rather clunky.

You could also try binding it to a different button and trying that (as it can fail to register for some reason after using the button the first few times). Also don't forget to move forward (or in any direction) and then hitting the key a few times, and then trying to do it also in the journal (and main menu).

Let me know if this helps.

okay it's not really fix, but i found the cause and a half fix. its made worse if you have multiple quests in your journal. so if you close off all the tabs in your journal. except for the one you are currently doing. and try and finish quests quick before taking more. this seems to restore the journal to a functional level.
Stu -1 12 Aug, 2020 @ 11:14pm
had to uninstall because i could not get the journal to work. was always blank or with cut off sentences. regardless of using the J hotkey 'fix'. going to try a fresh install. do you have any tips or common errors i might have made to stop it working?

Your suggested Widescreen Fix settings work WAY better than messing with the defaults. Thank you.
