How to Create a Democratic Government, without losing all your provinces
By Thunderous Ringo
First you must start a campaign (crazy right?). When you feel that you want to start a revolution you must raise the taxes in your capitol region to full and exempt all other regions from taxation except your capitol. Ignore all riots, letters of demands, and strikes, that may start in your capitol region, and take out all units from your capitol region. After about four to eight turns a revolution will start an you will be asked if you want to join the revolution or the government. To instigate a democratic government you must side with the revolution (i.e. the people who want to make the democratic government). If you join the revolution you will wil be given control of a small army, you will not be able to control all your old provinces but do not worry. With this army you will have to take your capitol region as fast as possible. Once completed you will have control of all your regions and everything will go back to normal. The difference will be that your government will be democratic and your flag will have changed, the flag of your faction will be the countries modern flag (except in the case of Great Britain). You will also have a prime minister or president or some sort of elected official leading your nation as opposed to a king. Every ten turns I believe, your nation will go through an election, and your prime minister will change and all your other minister, for example, the minister of Justice is one of your ministers, you can fire your ministers if you find that they are not good enough but you will only be able to fire one minister per turn, as opposed to as many as you want when you are a monarchy.

The advantage to having a democratic government is that your people will be more supportive of you, there will be more nationalism in your country. Another advantage will be that, when you capture a region the people in the region will be glad you have conquered them because you have freed them from their old monarch. Rarely will you have to deal with revolutions.

The only disadvantage of having a democratic government will be that your old allies that are monarchies will have a lesser relationship status with you, they may even break alliances with you - but after all, that's a good thing, you can just invade them like any good jingoist who plays total war. Additionally your power over firing ministers will be lessened.

Happy Gaming

~ Don't forget to be a jingoist...you aren't playing total war right if you don't subscribe to that policy.

Democraic Spain is pretty awesome, Portugal doesn't want to rebel after you unite Iberia. France hates you, but won't attack you.

World Domination as Democratic Russia is pretty fun to, you don't get all your troops tired down with quelling unrest.

@ChimpCookie But what advantages does the constitutional Monarch have over a Republic or Absolute King?

Going constitutional monarchy requires you to go from Absolute Monarchy to a Republic first. Then, do the same thing as you need to do to get a revolution, except this time you set upper class taxes to max and lower class taxes to minimum. You then get a counter-revolution.

...when people have revolutions they usually have no patience for the king, even if he will abide by a constitution. But tbh I don't know
