Safe goblin stash looting
By spared_life
I lost alot of dwarfs in a battle with a large group of goblins. Whatever progress I made in defeating the goblins was lost when they respawned while waiting for dwarf reinforcements. I knew I had to change tactics, this is my solution.

my Solution step 1
By controlling a dwarf you can single handedly raid and loot any goblin area. While controlling a dwarf you can place blocks and remove objects 2 blocks in any direction around the dwarf. Including placing or removing through the block closest to the dwarf. Basically you use this technique to build your own personal tunnel.

In this screenshot you can see I have placed six blocks to the right of my position, which is the direction I want to go.

my solution step 2
Next I remove the closest block to me. I continue this until I have reached my position goal. Be sure to always stay enclosed by remembering to place the outside blocks before removing the inside. Every now and then some miner will chop away one of your bricks. Make sure to keep one brick between you and the one he is removing. After you replace it a couple times he usually gives up. You can remove objects like torches, ladders, rocks, and trees by reaching through the immediate block.

my solution step 3
When you get to the loot slowly start blocking off the goblins access to the treasure. With some patience you should be able to place a block when the goblins walk away.

my solution step 4
Once the area is cleared and blocked off then you can remove a block for access. Since you are doing this without killing any goblins there should be little if no respawns while destroying the containers. At this point you can release control of the dwarf and mark the loot containers for destruction or maintain control and do it yourself.

my solution step 5
Enjoy the loot with no interference.

one bite at a time
If you come up on a situation that seems impossible this technique can be used to divide and conquer. You can open access to one section at a time.

using the ants to take down the guardian
cut a path between the ants and the guardian leaving a block on the ant end until you are ready. Since you can destroy the block two blocks from you through the block closest to you this allows you to create a wall around you which will allow you to remove the end block without engaging the ants.

using the ants to take down a dragon
I trapped a dragon in with two ants. The ants seemed to be immune to the dragon's fire. Under a constant barrage of fire the two ants managed to kill the dragon.

I made a path from the ants to the lava. After a little coaxing the ants came down but seemed uninterested in the dragon. Then the dragon started making its way up the path to the ants lair. I followed it up safely with having one block between me and the dragon and ants. When the dragon reached the ants lair I cut off the descending path. Only two ants remained with the dragon by the time I closed off it's retreat. In the close quarters the two ants began to attack.

I am sure the devs overlooked the ants immunity to the dragon.

Interesting. Sounds tedious though.

For larger fights I collect the dwarfs with the spell (dunno it's name, icon is dark red) in close, but safe, range - or call them all home and open a portal to the target zone. Either way, all dwarfs are together and attack.

It kind of works with the dragons and guardian too. I build all the way around the mob as close as I can get which limits their movement to stationary. Then remove a single block on each side of the mob giving the dwarfs access to a crossfire. The mobs can't get out of reach and use their ranged weapons against the dwarfs.

Neat tactic! I might use it when I get there.
