Press (C) on Keyboard OR (B) on Xbox Controller OR (O) on PS4 Controller to crouch down. Now approach a cat and Bayek will automatically reach out and pet it.

And FYI you cannot pet dogs, only cats. But lets be honest, who really cares about dogs :P

when i play, as soon as i walk near the cat the prompt comes up.
