How to carry your Uplay free Weekend progress over to the Steam Version
By Youngst🌟r
So you played the Free Weekend but on your Uplay account cause that offered preloading and also they said any progression from the weekend would be carried onto the full game if you buy it later. You enjoy Ghost Recon Wildlands and buy it on Steam as it was cheaper than the Uplay store. You try to play the game and find that your saves are missing and you will need to start again. Fear not you maybe able to carry your Uplay progression over to Steam.

How to move your Uplay save files to the Steam version of Ghost Recon Wildlands
There are two versions of GRW. The stand alone that does not use Steam but does use the Uplay launcher and the Steam version which uses a cut down Uplay launcher to launch the game and deal with the Uplay cloud saves.

You maybe aware Uplay games on Steam don't normally use Valve’s cloud but use their own Uplay cloud to save your games progress. They also store a copy locally in the Ubisoft folder in your Programs Folder.

Example C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\

In this folder should be a folder which has all your Uplay game saves. The problem I had was the UplayPC and SteamPC versions save the game to two separate folders Uplay 1771 and Steam 3559.

How to moves the save games

  • If you're coming from Uplay and want your progression carried over then rename the Steam PC save game folder from 3559 to Steam3559 and then copy and/or rename the UplayPC save game folder from 1771 to 3559

  • Next time you run the game from steam it should ask which save you want to use the local or the cloud. Choose local you should now have your free weekend progress from your Uplay GRW on your Steam GRW.

  • If you play on Uplay after you renamed the 1771 saves folder Uplay should recreate the folder from the Uplay cloud.

Uplay didn't ask me if I want to keep my local progress and always overwrote it with the cloud data. The solution was to start the game, wait until the sync is done and then quickly copy the savegame files from the uplay edition to the steam versions folder (in time before the game itself starts)...

Uplay's savefile management is terrible (well, as everything Uplay related). This s**t just lost my 10 hours+ save (played during the free week-end)... :(

Yeah, for most of the Western users prices usually the same. I live in Ukraine and our price is 17.99$ which is ~600₴, as Exchange rate calculator I used said. Uplay and Origin use the same prices for both Ukraine and Russia (and other CIS coutries), and on Steam Russian prices usually even lower than Ukrain prices, so it's more profitable to buy game on Origin/Uplay in many cases. Uplay price was 999₽ which by that damn Calculator was ~300₴ , so I was thinking that's a good deal. But that dipshit Calcualtor lied and correct price is higher and around same ~600₴.

Oh well, and I just got REALLY F*CKED UP by Visa conversion rate and Exchange rate calculator I used. So it looks like I bought it for the same price on Uplay now...

Haha, your guide made me think about checking it's actual price for my region on Uplay.
>>You enjoy Ghost Recon Wildlands and buy it on Steam as it was cheaper than the Uplay store.
And for my region it's almost twice lower on Uplay than Steam. Since it doesn't have achievements on Steam anyway I decided to buy it there and got me Gold Edition (I know one DLC suck and second is good, but doesn't worth the price on Steam) for almost the price of Normal edition here on Steam.
