  • Sometimes clicking on the invite does nothing at all
  • Sometimes the invite may disappear (but not expire) from the chat box
The fix
Clicking invite does nothing
You can fix the invite doing nothing by having another person or yourself to create the lobby and when they invite you or you invite someone else it should work normally again, I have no idea what causes that bug.

The invite disappeared before I clicked it
If the invite disappears before you can click it you can still join the game by clicking the ▼ icon next to the persons name who invited you on the Steam chat box and selecting join game.
