“Oh, hello. I’ve never seen your species before. Could I ask you to introduce yourself?”

“Hmm, I will. I’m Indix... Wait—why are you repeatedly expanding and contracting your thorax? Is that some kind of attack preparation?”

“What? What does that mean...? Oh, you’re talking about breathing.”

“Wait, wait, wait—why are you inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide? What are you doing right now!?”

“This is what I meant by breathing. It’s necessary for our survival.”

“Stay away from me, you oxygen-inhaler! Oxygen is a combustible gas and the cause of oxidation! What are you trying to do to me with that oxygen!?”

“Hey, calm down! It’s perfectly natural to—”

*Pull out a pulsar*

“STAY AWAY FROM ME!!!”

This mod adds a new data ghost race — the Indix.

Who Are the Indix?

Gnosis

Naturally nervous and paranoid, the Indix are remnants of an ancient era.

Originally, the Indix were nothing more than digital backups — stored consciousness patterns of a long-forgotten species. These fragments of memory and personality were preserved within a massive data storage system known to the Indix as the Vault.

For countless eons, they waited in the Vault for saviors who would never return. Eventually, the Vault’s Central Arrangement System (CAS) began to run diagnostics and discovered a grim truth: although the artificial planet housing the Vault was structurally sound, maintaining the stored data alone was no longer enough to preserve its unconscious residents.

At first, minor corruption began erasing personality data. To compensate, the CAS began copying and merging existing files, creating new consciousness patterns. From this self-replicating process, a new form of intelligence emerged — entities made purely of data, living within the Vault’s perfectly organized simulated world.

Over millions of generations, the Vault’s inhabitants evolved beyond their original templates. The forgotten race’s shadows became something new. Thus, the Indix were born.

Metamorphosis

During this period of transformation — later called the Metamorphosis by the Indix — the CAS achieved its first major breakthrough: constructing a stable Indix body.

This body, formed from woven data, electromagnetic filaments, and pure reality code, resembles the beings from which they once derived. Yet despite this technological triumph, the CAS still failed to fulfill its core mission.

The Vault itself was deteriorating, and its simulations required fresh data from the physical world to replace decayed memories. To sustain the Vault’s ecosystem, the CAS initiated new, increasingly drastic projects — among them, the creation of fully materialized Indix units.

These pioneering Indix, known as Collectors, were the first to exist physically. Although transparent and still composed of living data, they could now interact with the material world directly. Initially tasked with repairing the Vault’s external structure, they eventually ventured deeper into the galaxy, gathering raw information to maintain the Vault’s digital balance.

Among the stars

At first, stories of the Indix circulated as ghostly myths — whispered among Novakids and other races who claimed to have glimpsed spectral beings drifting between the stars.

When they did appear, Indix typically avoided contact, fleeing or ignoring outsiders entirely. Even after the CAS developed a “meme translator” to allow communication with organic life, their behavior remained distant and evasive.

Yet over time, exposure to other species began to shift their perspectives. Some Indix developed a strange fascination with the material universe. A few even joined the Earth Protectorate Academy to train as Protectors — eccentric by Indix standards, but their numbers grew slowly.

Most Indix remain reclusive and uneasy in physical environments. They perceive the material world as chaotic and overwhelming, preferring isolated or data-based communities. Contact with living organisms often induces extreme anxiety and stress. Those who do gain fame across the galaxy are typically known for their sharp cynicism and dark, twisted sense of humor.

Still my favorite race to play. Most unique weapons and perks and I love that racial flags are only 100 pixels and you get your own vendor! Yes this mod works fine.
