Circumvent the Launcher

Go to your games properties -> Local Files -> Browse Local Files or navigate to the install directory manually at \Steam\steamapps\common\Layers of Fear.

Open the "GameGuide" folder.

Look for a text file called "exename.txt".

Open it with any kind of text editor and change "GameGuide/Layers of Fear.exe"

to "Layers of FearSub.exe" so it looks like this and save it.

Congratulations! You have now successfully circumvented the launcher and Steam will directly start up the game.

Updated the Guide to reflect the changes made to the games installation and added a new, faster and easier way to bypass the launcher.

No problem. I just wanted to let you know that easier solution I found. The Linux version doesn't have this annoying launcher by the way, and I assume the Mac version neither.

My bad. I didnt remove the "GameGuide/" in the text file. Guess I'll update it again and give you credit for the much easier way.

Strange. I've tried it again with a fresh installation and it worked like a charm for me. You need to enter "Layers of FearSub.exe" without the hyphens, of course.

That does not seem to work with a fresh installation of Layers of Fear for me.

I figured a much easier way to skip the launcher:
Open the file GameGuide/exename.txt and change its content to "Layers of FearSub.exe"
