A build I've been using for a long time, and still can't let go. I always use this for any loud One Down heist.

Non DLC alternatives included.

  • Low rate of fire
  • Low health
Author's Notes:
  • New guide coming soon! It will be a high(er) risk high(er) reward version of this build. Link will be put here when it is ready.

  • Skills I do not explain are either self-explanatory or were bought with excess points.

  • Got a question? Ask in the comments section, and I'll answer as soon as I can.

  • I'm always looking to optimize my build as much as I can, so feedback is much wanted.

  • If this guide helped you, or you think it can help others, please consider sharing and rating.

  • This being my first guide, it took a lot more work than expected! A like and favourite would let me know that it wasn't wasted effort.
Mastermind

MEDIC

Pain Killers+:
80% damage reduction for 5 seconds will allow teammates you revive to escape any immediate danger with a high chance of success.

Combat Doctor+:
Increasing your doctor bag amount and their charges results in extensively lengthening the amount of uses before they run out.

Inspire+:
Reviving teammates instantly by shouting at them within 9 meters is a god-send in any loud heist. Shouting at live teammates gives them 20% more speed.

CONTROLLER

Joker:
Enables ability to convert enemies. Joker+ gives little for what it costs.

Confident+:
Enemies are converted much more easily. Converting 2 enemies will work nicely, especially with the skill below.

Partners In Crime+:
Your converts take 99% less damage, allowing them to take away enemy fire from you and onto them for longer.

Stockholm Syndrome+:
Sometimes, teammates just fail to revive you, or you couldn't - or forgot to - use a doctor bag. That's why you're in custody now, waiting ages for the wave to end and hopefully that one hostage hasn't been freed yet and can still be traded. Instead, immediately come back and join the fight by pressing space, with one condition however: a convert or hostage has to be available for trading. Doesn't have to be yours though.

Notes & Tips:
  • Convert cops as early as you can! They really can take off the pressure.
  • First Aid Kits are utterly useless on One Down generally, and even more so when using Anarchist Perk Deck. It's simply not worth healing back to full hp when you can only heal so much.
  • Use doctor bags sparingly. (More information in deployables section.)
Enforcer [WIP]

TANK

Die Hard+:
50% less damage while interacting with anything. This works well if you are one who tries to get the objective done or interact with a deployable. The additional armor is admittedly trivial in terms of One Down but I have it on to have a sense of security.

Transport:
Most heists involve moving bags around.

Bullseye+:
Works wonderfully against Bulldozers. It's never been easier to armor gate than before!

AMMO SPECIALIST

Scavenger:
Complements the China Puff quite nicely.

Notes & Tips:
  • Armor Gating is key to survival! (See Armor section)
  • Resilience+ is unnecessary, as you can simply shoot the flashbang or look away.
  • Shock And Awe will not work since Anarchist negates any increased armor recovery rate.
Technician

BREACHER

Hardware Expert:
Waste less time fixing and use more time surviving.

Drill Sawgeant+:
Wait less; do more.

Notes & tips:
  • Hardware Expert and Drill Sawgeant make a perfect mix for faster objective completion.
  • Place drills before your teammates. It takes longer to upgrade a drill/saw than it takes to place it.
Ghost

ARTFUL DODGER

Parkour+:
Faster movement with Run and Reload is nothing but bliss.

Shockproof+:
It is often difficult to find the Waldo-Of-A-Taser when hundreds of cops are surrounding you. And by the time you do find him, you don't have any more ammo. Set yourself free once tasing has begun by pressing the interact button.

SILENT KILLER

Optical Illusions:
As if your converts weren't enough to take away the heat from you, you become 35% less likely to get targeted.

Notes & Tips:
  • React fast! You only have 2 seconds to interact with the Taser when the tasing begins.
  • Stay alive by getting to cover quick; when your armor breaks, Second Wind will provide you 30% more speed for 5 seconds which helps to get to safety faster while the Anarchist Perk Deck makes you invincible for 2 seconds (15 second cooldown).
  • Don't forget that you can Run and Reload at the same time.
Fugitive

REVENANT

Nine Lives+:
In the case of One Down, YOLO becomes YOLT. Any One Down build that excludes this is a joke. 99.99% of them anyway.

Swain Song+:
When downed, unleash hell for 9 seconds with the China Puff.

Notes & Tips:
  • It is recommended to keep you any weapon reloaded with at least 1 round remaining in your China Puff at all times, so you don't waste precious time reloading when Swan Song activates.

  • You cannot start an interaction with a doctor bag if Swan Song+ has already been activated. You must initiate the interaction before going down.

  • When Swang Song is active, it is advised to do any of the following (which one depends on the situation and your own judgement):
  1. (Slowly) run to safety or escape
  2. Revive - Use inspire to bring back dead teammates
  3. Eradicate enemies - Whip out your China Puff and go bananas
  4. Intimidate and convert an enemy - If there are 2 or less non-special enemies
  5. Interact - Fixing a drill or a deployable
  6. Spam the ground near you with the Light Crossbow and profit!
Primary Weapon
Light Crossbow
MODIFICATIONS:
Default ammo type is best because:
  • Poison Bolts: It can kill most enemies with a single body shot, but Cloakers will take 2 shots and Bulldozers need even more to be killed.

  • Explosive arrows cannot be retrieved.
Use any boost you like, I use the Team Boost.

TIPS
  • Headshots kill fast and regenerate armor.

  • Cloakers, Medics and Tasers take priority.

  • Aim higher for killing far enemies like snipers.

  • Pick up arrows back often.

ALTERNATIVES
Non-DLC: Platypus 70 sniper rifle.
DLC: Grom sniper rifle

Sniper rifles are generally weaker than the Light Crossbow. Attaching a suppressor/silencer modification and acquiring Specialized Killing+ will result in 30% more damage. The Grom has 5 more rounds in the magazine and faster reload than the Platypus.

Advantages over the Crossbow:
  • take out Snipers far more easily,
  • penetrate through flesh, walls, armor and shields. Note: That's why we have the China Puff.
Disadvantages over the Crossbow:
  • arguably longer reload time,
  • takes ammo from ammo boxes,
  • significantly less damage,
  • needs skills to make them usable.
Secondary Weapon
China Puff 40mm
MODIFICATIONS:
  • Default ammo type is best as Incendiary Rounds do too little damage.

  • Use any Boost you wish, I use Team Boost.

  • Stock doesn't matter.

TIPS:
  • Shoot at 3+ enemies in a group.
  • Keep 1 round loaded for when Swang Song.
  • Pick up ammo boxes after you kill a group.
  • Shooting the ground near your enemies will avoid missing shots.
  • Spread out enemies can still be hurt by shooting in-between them.
  • This weapon is suited for dealing with Shields, multiple non-specials & Bulldozer's faceplates.

I've played the Soldier in TF2, and I believe the same shooting tips can with this weapon as well. Such as aiming at the ground below the enemies' feet to avoid missing and shooting in between 2 or more spread out enemies to deal damage to each of them.

ALTERNATIVES
Non-DLC: 5/7 AP Pistol
DLC: Pistol Crossbow with Explosive Bolts.
Armor and Melee
ARMOR
Lightweight Ballistic Vest
On One Down the most common enemy, according to The Long Guide, deals 225 damage. Mathematically, it will only take 2 shots to break your armor. This is where Armor Gating comes in. As long as you have a single point of armor, your HP cannot take any damage (except by Snipers.) You can keep regenerating armor by handing out headshots.

MELEE
Kunai Knife
The melee will take a big part in converting enemies. The best way to get enemies to surrender is to stab them once (or twice) with the Kunai Knife and start shouting at them. It helps if they are alone too. If they refuse and continue to be hostile towards you, kill them and move onto converting another cop instead. Kunai Knife has the most stun chance (70%) of all melee weapons.
Other
PERK DECK
Anarchist
My all-time favourite perk deck. At the cost of half your HP...
  • 120% increased armor
  • Stronger armor regenerates more armor at a slower rate
  • Weaker armor regenerates less armor at a faster rate.
  • When your armor breaks, you can't get hurt for 2 seconds (15 second cooldown.)
  • Regenerate 10 armor when you deal damage every 1.5 seconds.

THROWABLE
Concussion Grenade
The Concussion Grenade's stunning effect can reach most of the enemies in an area, allowing you to flee or infiltrate in a moment.

DEPLOYABLE
Doctor Bag
A must-have deployable for One Down. It resets your downs so you won't get into custody when you heal again. Generally, a full team should have atleast 4 fully upgraded doctors bags. Make sure no one including yourself overuses the bags; use the bags only when your screen is grey! Going twice on One Down should turn your screen grey, except if you went down by Cloakers or Tasers.

CREW MANAGEMENT
Loadout 1 takes priority. When players join, the AI Bot using Loadout 1 will be kicked out last. Obviously, Loadout 3 takes least priority, and will be kicked first when a player joins. Faster reload really helps when it comes to using the crossbow.

After using it for about week and a half, it helped me get through all my One down hiests I needed, and it even worked up to 1.4k Crime Spree for me. Literally a miracle build and its super satisfying one shotting enemies on One down like nothing. I changed concussions to javelins, and my god it's super fun. 10/10 build.

I'm really sorry! I didn't mean to seem that way. I just wanted to say why I chose not to get Frenzy. Really sorry if I seemed harsh.

This build has such high damage that getting frenzy+berserker would be a waste. Getting just frenze aced even more so.
