The tale of Goatse and friend is truly something to behold. From the amazing and catchy albeit small soundtrack to the tight controls and varied, fluid, cartoonish animation, the terrific sound design that compliments said animations, and even the somewhat childish yet charming humor, the game delivers a fantastic and affectionate tribute to the era of games of which it attempts to emulate. Some may say the game is a bit lacking in regards to length, but those people don't realize that this is a very deliberately crafted experience that entices the player to not only replay the game again, but to snoop around in every nook and cranny to find the expertly hidden secrets within. This game is not without fault, however. As much as I would love to sing its praises and generally inflate the creators' egos further, a review should inherently include the positives AND negatives of a work, perfect as it may seem. For one, the addition of a game over screen in a game where death has little to no actual consequence is somewhat odd. Seeing as there are multiple "checkpoints" throughout levels and coupled with the fact that certain factors such as falling into a bottomless pit instantly transports you back to said checkpoint complete with a transition effect, it would make more sense to cut out the middle-man and instead have a screen transition to the last checkpoint you activated, with the base amount of health that you typically start with after death, of course. Another relatively small gripe I have is with the responsiveness of the game itself. The controls themselves are great and perfect for a platformer, but I find that the action of grabbing onto ledges after being in midair can be finicky at times, especially when precise movements are required. At other times, headbutting into enemies in the air seems to simply not work even at the correct height and distance. Overall, the complaints are minor and the game more than makes up for its occasional shortcomings. However, there is one glaring issue I've neglected to mention until now which is the game's use of words such as "crap". As a good, God-fearing Christian, I believe this to be immoral filth that has long tainted the English lexicon as well as people's minds. To this extent, I must dock one gazillion billion trillion a million points off this game for stooping to this level and hope that everyone involved in this production, past and present, writes a graduate thesis on why using such vile slang ultimately harms our proud and dignified society. Then again, you can unlock a green shirt and become green with it so I guess everything is ok.

This game is pretty good except for the part where it stops and I realize all the things I could have done instead, but hey, that's just me. :)
