The social base of the party, which initially claimed to be nationwide, was the middle class, which suffered the most as a result of the First World War and the post-war crisis. In the 1930s, about 30% of the party's members were workers, mainly skilled, and since the early 1930s it has enjoyed the active support of large industrial and financial capital, which saw in the NSDAP a real alternative to the Social Democrats and a force capable of leading the recovery of the German economy and its lost positions in the international arena.
