Perfect Buttered Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
1 tbsp (12g) baking powder
1/2 tsp (2.5g) salt
1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, very cold (plus 2 tbsp melted for brushing)
3/4 cup (180ml) cold whole milk or buttermilk
Optional: 1 tsp granulated sugar (for a hint of sweetness)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if using).

Cut in the butter: Grate the cold butter using a box grater or cut it into small cubes. Add it to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingertips to combine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add the milk: Slowly pour in the cold milk while stirring with a fork or spatula until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Turn out the dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it 3-4 times to bring it together, then pat or roll it into a 1-inch-thick rectangle.

Cut the biscuits: Use a round biscuit cutter (or a floured glass) to cut out biscuits. Avoid twisting the cutter to ensure the biscuits rise properly. Gather scraps, re-roll, and cut out more biscuits.

Bake: Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they’re touching slightly for softer sides or spaced apart for crispier edges. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Brush with melted butter: Remove biscuits from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter for extra flavor.

Serve warm: Enjoy your biscuits fresh with jam, honey, or more butter.
