The game is fun and worth playing and you will get hundreds of fun hours out of it. It is not the same game it used to be. Over time the developers have catered to the casual audience voice (for growth reasons which makes sense). They have change many mechanics moving this game from a very hardcore and rewarding game to a much more accessible and less skill-dependent game.

Issues with the game in no particular order as of 4-29-2020:

Watering down skill issues:
-Almost any gun can now kill you in 2 shots, and some of the weaker rifles were given a fast firing ability.
-Bosses can be almost instantly killed by simply throwing a sticky bomb at them.
-Headshot range was greatly increased for weaker guns.

Changes to make the game easier and more casual:
-Antidote shots give full match immunity to poison
-Clues and Bosses will alert you if someone is near
-Darksight lets you see where other players are hiding for a limited time.
-Playing slow and campy is rewarded in general as there's no impetus to play fast or extract bounties quickly.
-Headshot range was greatly increased for weaker guns.

Pay to Win Issues:
-You can respec traits by spending blood bonds (bought with real world currency). This allows someone to recruit a high level hunter and pay money to take the best traits every game.
-You can use blood bonds to reroll your hunter recruitment list infinitely and find the best skin/weapon/trait combo as well.
-You can use blood bonds to respec your health bars to a couple powerful configurations: Big, small, small big. This setup allows you to die twice and if you banish a boss be at full health. Big, small, big, small: This setup allows you to go down and if you have the trait "Resilience: be revived with 100 health" - you will be revived and heal to 125 health.

MMR Issues:
-MMR is almost non-existent, you will get matched with literally anyone, very frustrating for new players.
-The game only has 1 really good way to rate other players - KD. And this is deeply flawed because it makes people play overly cautiously which ruins a lot of the fun.
-No region lock: You will get matched against people from China or Brazil in the US
-You can be put into empty maps with no other players. Some people enjoy this, most veteran players find it a huge waste of time and very frustrating.

Content Issues:
-No new map or boss for 1+ years. Only DLC skins have been released.

Game State Issues:
-Hit detection is handled both client and server side, your view of the world is all client side. With high ping you see the world in a past state. Peek a corner and you will see someone stationary who in realtime already moved to cover, but for you he didn't. Shoot his face, win.
-No region locking. A common fix for ping issues and seen in many popular FPS shooters, the devs refuse to implement this.
-No reconnect feature. You can get dropped due to the hunt servers, due to your ISP or your PC and your hunter will often be lost. In a FPS hardcore permadeath shooter this is deeply flawed. The devs have refused to fix this stating its "too hard."
-Bugs. Every patch fixes things and breaks other things. There's never been a patch that hasn't broken something new or something that was previously fixed.
-Nvidia Filters: allow people to almost completely remove darkness and night time.
-Only 12 people per map. This is especially annoying in Trios where there is only 4 teams.
