One of the best indie games I've ever played. This game is more than a colorful, underwater themed souls-like, it takes your expectations and blows them out of the water (pun intended). Crab Souls is bursting with charm with every character, setting, and dialogue and it's very easy to get engrossed for hours. The fighting is firm but fair, and very satisfying once you get the hang of all the mechanics. Ocean Ring's open world, fun puzzles and tricky platforming make it feel a lot like if Battle for Bikini Bottom was a souls-like. This game is outstanding in every way, a true highlight in the indiescape.

Great for DBZ fans! As an RPG it makes some odd choices and falls short occassionally but the gameplay, world, and story make up for it.

After a decent amount of time with Kakarot I feel I can recommend it to most. The gameplay is a mix of action RPG fights as many DBZ characters and exploring the overworld gathering resources and doing side quests to power up your characters. The fights themselves are usually satisfying and cinematic while doing a great job making you feel stronger as you level up. The overworld isn't amazing but serves its purpose and has many areas and secrets to explore.

Some small gripes I have include boring filler battles (Prepare to fight the same RR army robots a couple dozen times), and the combat becoming a tad stale. Even across many different fights, while the opponent's attacks, voice lines, and cutscenes are quite different, the way you fight and defeat each of them rarely differ. Also the game's built in card game is actually extinct, which is disappointing when a lot of in-game rewards are cards for a game nobody ever plays.

As long as you're a fan of or at least interested in the Dragon Ball Universe, there's enough satisfaction in becoming stronger and progressing the story to keep going to the end.

All in all I would rate Kakarot as follows:

As an open world RPG: 7
As a whole: 8
As a game for DBZ fans: 9
