Ken Kaneki is a shy, book-loving college student who becomes a half-ghoul after receiving organs from Rize Kamishiro, a ghoul, following a freak accident. As a half-ghoul, he struggles between his human morals and ghoul instincts, needing to consume human flesh to survive.

Over time, Kaneki transforms from a timid boy into a powerful and often ruthless figure. He goes through intense physical and psychological changes, adopts new identities (like Haise Sasaki), and ultimately fights to create a world where humans and ghouls can coexist.
