This stinks

People fall funny

For an 8 hour run time it really felt padded with too many simple and/or similar feeling puzzles. sometimes you;d be in a room with a 'new mechanic' but the solution is once again:
Place block on pad that open exit
Place block on pad that does thing (extends bridge)
Rewind block to pas that opens exit after crossing bridge

The game should have cut these to bring down the runtime or replaced them with more head scratchers. the game has them, the devs were capable, but not enough to make the run time feel worthwhile.

Overall: It's okay.

Big fan of Ben James' previous works but this was an amazingly bland and repetitive experience even three stages in.
First mid-bosses of each stage moving in exactly the same way and having the same second stage.
Backgrounds that are the same symmetrical patterns vertically zipping by for the entirety of the stage, telling no story.
Some boilerplate OST and boss intro signage.
Absolutely baffling eye-shaped bullets that flicker between bright blue (good) and dark blue (why on earth).

The biggest killer to enjoyment for me was the lack of any button to slow down movement for finer discrete shifts in position and of course getting bopped for it.

This feels like research was done into What To Do in SHMUPS, but as a result played it very safe and didn't do anything interesting or out of the ordinary.

This genre has about 3 and a half decades worth of entries and too many greats too list, but let's just keep the recommendations to Western devs from the past decade:
ZeroRanger
Teslapunk
Eigengrau
Super Galaxy Squadron EX Turbo

This game crashed at least 12 time during my playthrough (always during the time rewind).
Also for how often you need to repeat large chunks of the game over again and again the ability to save and quick load anywhere would have been greatly helpful and stopped the latter portion from feeling like a giant drudge.

One of the worst games I've ever played. Sell your hardware.

It was a little lacking as a 'metroidvania' title in that no interesting abilities were experimented with, but it's a solid 2d platformer.

For some reason the game recognises controller inputs, but Steam's own controller configuration doesn't recognise a pad(?) so unfortunately you're stuck with
Face Button Left = Jump and
Face Button Right = Shoot
which is awkward to say the least.

The definitive edition.

My satisfaction level with this game was akin to going down a really steep slide.

Don't play this all in one sitting, it'll do bad things to you.
