It is very clear what games Grimlord takes inspiration from but I do not see it as a "souls clone" in VR but as a very good translation of the souls-like genre into VR, definitely the best I have seen. As someone who adores the souls game as well as VR I have been waiting so long for there to be a good souls-like VR game and I can say without a doubt that Grimlord delivers. Its map design is great with there often being secret passages with loot and materials at the end of them and I do like how you can open up shortcuts throughout the map to make return visits or death runs to receive lost matter quicker. The combat is really good with it being on par with games like Blade and Sorcery with my only downside to it being that, at least from the little I've played, there isn't a lot of variety of weapons so that is something, I id love to see in the future, although this may change as I progress more. I have yet to try out any magic or bow combat as in these types of games I prefer a melee build. As for story i dont know much other than what I can piece together since I currently have only just over an hour of playtime. Overall, I think this is a great VR game and I can't wait to play more of it and see what MetalCat has in store for future updates, I would really recommend the game if you are a fan souls-like games as well as VR games. One more additional note is that this game is quite the workout with me being drenched in sweat after only an hour of playing thanks to the combat.
