I've grown up on this game, it was the first game I bought on steam almost 7 years ago, first game I played on my first xbox 6 years ago and was first introduced to it on my mates playstation. I only have about 400 hours on steam, but I can easily sit down and play for longer than I should. From dusk to dawn without even realising it had been more than an hour. Never played offical, almost always playing on my own or just with a friend or two. When it was $60 it was well worth it. Except now they've released ASA. I won't touch it.

I've got my reasons, all ark players have the reasons to like or dislike ASA. My biggest issue is pretty simple, I can't run it. I know most ark players have a much beefer computer compared to me. I'm lucky to be able to run as ASE. But ASA is just ark with a graphics update and a bigger price tag. Its more expensive than ASE ever was and it isn't close to being worth nearly as much. And the devs going back on promises makes me and a lot of other members of the ark community sceptical.

Do what you like, buy ASE or buy ASA. They are both great games, cause we gotta remember when ASE was released it was a buggy mess, still is. But not as buggy as ASA, give it time and we will see what wildcard and those snails do.

And besides ASE gets more total players than ASA and that's without offical servers running anymore.

So I've played almost 100 hours now, and well 60 hours are easily spent on the first 3 islands. Not because its fun, but because I'm ♥♥♥♥ at the game. Also can't wait to spend an extra 50 hours to get the 100 days achievement. Huge waste of time, would recommend.

So let me set some context. I play on my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ school laptop, with poor internet. Yet I still have 200 or so hours. I love this game, every single aspect. I love how painful it is, how long my headache will last once I've gotten off, and even how much time I have to invest into fixing AI planets after I invade them.

Except some things can't be overlooked

1. The price specifically of the DLC's. I've recently been playing without any DLC's and I truly see how little content the game has without DLC's. I've got a handful of them, yet to own them all its well over $400, which for critical game content is a bit much.

2. The late game is such a waste, the time:entertainment ratio is horribly messed up. You'll reach your first 200-300 years then even on fastest speed it is a grind just to play. So many issues are present which slow down the game, but you would think with less empires in the late game it would run faster? Well not really, one of the issues I've had is having just too many planets meaning HUGE amounts of population. The game is soooo demanding on your PC (I am playing on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ laptop), so my opinion is a little biased. But still the late game isn't much fun regardless.

No matter what, I love this game and will play till my heads spinning.

Early Access Review
So I'd been looking at the map and found where I wanted to live. I open up the game, make a character I'm a police officer. Spawn in a small house on the other side of town. Its a veterans house. Find a military backpack and a gun in the bedroom!! Super happy, go outside find a car with keys. Go to the neighbours house and loot there shed. Fuel can perfect I can find fuel for my car. Got a metal pipe, murdering the undead with easy. Stuffs going well, made my way to a smaller house closer to where I want to live and set up an emergency house. Start making my way to where I wanna live, I know there are gonna be zombies I gotta kill. Killed a heap looting one last house, open the window. The house is alarmed, all my work is undone and I book it back to my small house. Get there and huh why is there a zombie here I cleared it this morning, the entire house was filled with a small horde. I get in my car to try run them over, more show up. Car engine dies. I run away.

I'd win.

This game is the sole reason I've been able to survive my senior years of physics.
