Kapia

Is a 3-D Point and Click game 😊

  • Vibrant artwork and animation.
  • Intriguing story.
  • Very polished!
  • Music is complimentary, not distracting.
  • Family friendly

    Update:Puzzles can now be skipped.

I could not see "skip" , "fight" covered it up so I had to guess a bit.
    For now:
Launch game, wait for a fraction of a moment to press an ESC and it will be uncovered

Kapia is a family-friendly game presented to us by a two-person team that poured a lot of love and passion into the project. It was six years in the making and very polished. The studio name is accurately 2 FOR 2 😊

People live under a dome in the Kapia universe.
    Why is that?
That is just one of the things that will be revealed in your quest to unite Stefan with his granddaughter, Reny.

The store page accurately describes the game, so I won’t delve into that further.

    Controls/Options:

This is fully supported playing with a controller or mouse. I tested both, they worked as they should.
There is an auto-save with very well-placed checkpoints. You do not have to worry about backtracking because of a lack of a manual save.
The Inventory runs along the top of the screen, just hover to access it. You can examine items to learn a little more about them as well. Just drag n drop the item you wish to use.

You can enable hints if you are stuck, and you can replay a chapter if you like.

    Other

There are few games that will hold the interest and entertain adults and their children/grandchildren; Kapia is one of them.

It started out slow, but I am glad I persevered.

You meet a variety of characters of course; AI plays a huge role in this, so the modern game-play fits in well.

There are a couple of timed or dexterity based puzzles. As most of you know I am terrible at them, but the devs made them easy enough that even I made it through them. The devs are talking about a skip option on those; I will update my review if it happens.

I look forward to their next project and will keep my eye on 2 FOR 2 studios,

I look at everything a few times, playtime is six plus hours for me, and I am not quite done as yet.

Magnus Imago

This is as surreal and out there as it gets; I liked it for that very reason. If you need a break from games that are all feeling the same, this is it.

It will not however, be everyone's cup of tea. There is no dialogue to speak of.

You need to hover slowly to make sure you get everything in a scene; there will be no text hints if you miss something telling you that you need to go back. The hand cursor will change when you have something to interact with.

There is backtracking to complete some puzzles, but it is a small world and won’t take long to get there.

The puzzles were a mixture, some vague as to what went where. As I said, surreal.

There is a manual save, and it did run smoothly for me with no glitches.

It is short, my playtime was about two hours because I did miss something.

Edited to add that I now see the price. Budget shoppers may want to wait for a sale.

Watch Over Christmas

A Point and Click Christmas present for us! 😊

  • Vibrant artwork and animation.
  • Good story.
  • Polished!
  • It’s Christmas, it is traditional; I want traditional!
  • Voice overs are coming.

From the developers of the much enjoyed “Not Another Weekend” comes “Watch Over Christmas!”
Please note that I have not finished this yet; it is a nice long game! I have about four hours into it and would say I’m only a third?

It is up to our young friend (and some of his friends), with our help, to save Christmas!
Santa has been abducted and off we go on a quest to set him free!
The dev wrote a thorough and accurate game description.

    Controls:
Standard controls you would expect in a Point and Click game.
There is a manual save and an auto-save.
Inventory is in a bag on the lower left.
Left click for item description, right click for additional actions.
    Spacebar shows hot-spots.
After I’ve saved Christmas, I will update this~!

Slender Threads Prologue

This defines what a good Point and Click looks like. 😊

  • Vibrant artwork and animation.
  • Intriguing story.
  • Polished.
There are a lot of demos and prologues out there; I don’t have time to play them all; this one is worth your time.
I played this when released and started writing a review then. Something shiny came along and I wandered off.
I wanted all my friends to know what a great play this was - hence the sharing, even if it is late!
It’s not often that we get a solid glimpse of what the game will be; this is one that you do. It is free, it is worth your time.
There is a lot going on here. The main protagonist is smart-alecky quite often, but not overbearing. You know that tipping point where there is too much humor, and the dialogue goes on and on with humorous joking that goes too far and are no longer humorous and only extends game-play...

Controls:
Standard controls you would expect in a Point and Click game.
Inventory is in a suitcase on the upper right.
F key for hot-spots
Left click for item description, right click for further information.
Fast travel map
A manual save system.

I remain excited for the release!

Lone McLonegan : A Western Adventure
I have not finished this so will keep it short. I’m frustrated by the controls and have decided to shelve the game for now and hope for patches

Beautiful artwork but short on execution

I am nitpicking.

I do like this game; I just don’t want to play it right now. I’m hoping for patches.

In the Steam forums people have mentioned unwieldy controls, two icons that accomplish the same things, constant selecting with the right-mouse button because it’s a single selection deal only, and the inability to move quicker when you double-click. There are too many traditional point-n-click controls that are missing. Wheels were reinvented that needn’t have been.

Some notes on the controls I’d like to see implemented were:

Right click exits the inventory.

Keep my inventory item selected until I deselect it.
Double click to walk faster.
Double-click at scene edge to fast travel.
The text was slow until I reached the town and there was no way to advance the text.
The talk icon is interesting; I had no idea what that thing was and still don’t. A tongue perhaps?
I don’t see that the dialogue you’ve already covered changes colors. That can make it difficult to keep up with.

GAMEPLAY

The game has an autosave function and a manual save.
There is a map you can fast travel with.
If you play the demo the credit scene is very slow; in the game it is not

Updated user-interface, a tutorial, this was needed unless you had some fundamental Spanish speaking skills already.
I was stuck for the longest time because the dialogue was giving me complete sentences that I could not break down.
I still think I would recommend this for someone that needs to brush up on existing Spanish speaking skills, but this is an improvement.

Sacrificial Lighthouse

A gorgeous little game that will surprise you

  • Vibrant and beautiful hand drawn graphics.
  • What a story!
  • Music is atmospheric and just right.
This is a short story that you witness through the eyes of Maya; it is her story and It’s going to go in directions you don’t expect; consider yourself warned.

This was initially developed during the Senscape Adventurous Jam in 2020. The team has been polishing it ever since.

GAMEPLAY

The game has an autosave function. You’ll see a bird on the lower right when it has saved.
This is WASD, you use the “E” key to interact. There are instructions, I think they could be just a bit clearer, but you’ll figure it out.

Tiny Lands

A Point and Click “Spot the Difference” Game

  • Vibrant beautiful graphics
  • No Timers
  • Multiple levels that are updated.
  • Very pleasant music

Don’t tell all my grown-up friends but I have been playing this game. If you don’t have much time to play you can pop in and do a quick level then stop.

You can zoom up (quite a bit), rotate, and then just click the differences; it’s that easy.

    Until it’s not 😊.

As you progress the levels become more difficult. On some of the latter levels I gave in to the “Click everything and see if you are penalized” monster; I was not.

The game saves when you exit. But, If you are on a level it will not remember where you are so finish that level (or screenshot it).

    Controls:
Keyboard: Q and E to pan left or right
Keyboard: Press Q+E simultaneously to quickly go back to the center after panning
Mouse: Press the scroll wheel and move your mouse left or right to pan

For the $4 something sale price I think it’s a steal. It is already repayable and the devs provide updated levels.

    Highlights Magazine anyone?

Behind the Frame

An artistic interactive fiction game

  • Vibrant beautiful graphics
  • Sweet story
  • A chapter select option
  • Very pleasant music

This game fits in-between Interactive and Point n Click. There's more puzzles than in most Interactive Fictions, but not enough length for a Point N Click story.

You are a hopeful young artist just starting your career. You will paint more than pictures; you will paint a story too.

You will not spend all your time painting, far from it. I fixated on staying in the lines at first and became frustrated. It was actually very forgiving about where I painted and would clean it up for me automatically - most of the time 😊. If you err too far it will erase that part of the painting and you will try again.

It can be a bit vague in what you are looking for later in the game. One of the chapters surprised me because I had to look around and think about what it was that I needed. Just keep looking and you’ll see it too. You will need to have an eye for detail.

    Controls:
Standard controls you would expect in a Point and Click game in addition to the ability to click and rotate the room around.
The inventory is in a journal that you activate by clicking on it. The journal fills the entire screen so have your phone handy to take pictures you will need to reference.
There is a chapter select (thank you). The game saves automatically when you exit.

    Options:
    Music, sound, voice, full/windowed.

Instead of “Senscape” I should probably review for “Cheapskate” My playtime was about two hours. Usually in the $10.00 range I expect a longer game.
    Is it worth it? Yes.
Am I on a gaming budget? Yes.

Erica

Erica is a Choose Your own Adventure FMV game. The movement is Point n Click, not WASD.

    Liked:
  • Excellent cinematography.
  • Great acting.
  • Story: It did keep me on interested and on the edge of my seat at times.

    Disliked:
  • Delayed click reaction, two second lag at times.
  • I would have liked more time to decide what I wanted to do. There are scenes where you do want to move quickly for the tension and atmosphere it creates, but there were a couple of selections that I missed when I glanced away for a second.
  • Meaningless clicking. Do away with all that “turn the page, flick a lighter” and the game would be even shorter than the 1.5 hours it took me.
  • Price. Wait for a sale.

    Controls and Options:
Volume control, full screen, “easier reading”, no manual save system.

I played this in May when it came out. Today I chose different actions to compare. There wasn’t that much of a difference between my plays until the last few minutes of the game. There are six ending. I doubt I will play again to see the other endings; you must replay the game with no option to skip text ahead or scene select.

I had no crashes but did find some of the actions you perform were difficult to get to trigger. There were a few scenes where you selected your choice by moving the cursor up and down by the action; those were hard to trigger.
