Dragon Quest III is the definitive JRPG of it's era and i think this is almost an objective fact,it is everything the genre was trying to be at the time and then some,borrowing a lot from western RPG's like Ultima and Wizardry.Such as non-linear open world design,custom party members and first person turn based battles.And then adding it's own spin on the formula,a very anime inspired art direction,and a story that focuses on small,personal vignettes.This is such a different approach to RPG's from Japanese developers nowadays,that it feels very unique even though it is very basic on paper.However everything comes together to create a game with an amazing gameplay loop and an unmatchable sense of adventure
Accomplishing such a diverse world,filled with different cultures,stories and aesthetics is a very respectable achievement for a 35 year old NES game.DQ3's world,especially with this version's amazing visuals and FANTASTIC translation,might be my favorite world in any JRPG.As most of you probably knows,it mimics our real world,so going to Japan and seeing everyone speak with haikus,and then witnessing a recreation of an old Japanese myth is so delightful,and creates such strong worldbuilding.This setting is a perfect match for a nonlinear game where you can go practically anywhere you want as soon as you get your ship.Almost no time is wasted in DQ3,no long cutscenes,tutorials or any other pace breakers,it's just you and your party against this whole world waiting for you to explore,and with the addition of a solid class system that is greatly expanded in this version,DQ3 might be the most pure fun I've ever had in a JRPG,not despite of it's simple nature,rather because of it.And couple that with an amazing twist that ties the Erdrick trilogy perfectly,i don't think it's unfair to say that this game is no less perfect than masterpieces like Chrono Trigger or FF6,and a must play for every JRPG fan

-Boss:How sad it is,that i will not be able to pay my daughter's treatment for her stage 4 terminal cancer :("
-Falls down,dies and drops a potato bag
-A huge "CONGRULATIONS" text appears as an entire orchestra puts their entire effort into playing the most victorius tune possible
-A huge round of applause as the game shows the goods i looted from his corpse and my entire roster dances happily for leveling up
-Warren Report:"He was a loving father of 2,and in his free time,he would like to plant flowers and giving food to stray cats,he also funded a orphanage and gave home to countless children"
