Such an end of the cycle embodied in the collapse of hierarchy and wholeness is described in the classical Indian texts. This model of the historical process is also adopted by the Traditionalist philosophers. Thus comes the final age, the Kali-Yuga, the era of democracy and equality, the worst forms of socio-political organization. The term “democracy” is, of course, not used in Hinduism, but in René Guénon we encounter the thesis  that the Kali-Yuga is marked by the transition from hierarchy to democracy, which promptly turns into plutocracy. Guénon says  that the modern West has arrived at its decline precisely because  it was the first to go through all the stages of the decline of caste. Forgetting the sacred nature of hierarchy, modern Westerners  have forgotten their inner spiritual dimension while focusing  entirely on the exterior. Hence, hierarchy collapsed and the  West lost the sacred, divine principle manifest in this hierarchy.
